The history of the Army in Riverdale, Illinois dates back to 1818. The first military unit in the town was the 1st Regiment of United States Infantry, which arrived from New York City on April 15th. The regiment was tasked with guarding the town during the war for independence. It is interesting to note that this regiment was disbanded in 1825 and did not reappear until 1861 when it became part of the 7th Regiment of United States Infantry. In 1860, Riverdale had a population of just over 100 residents and there were no military units stationed in the town. However, because of its strategic location and proximity to Chicago, many soldiers from nearby towns came to live and fight for General Abraham Lincoln in his Civil War effort. This army gift history can be traced back to 1862 when Confederate general Jefferson Davis ordered his forces into Riverdale locks located upstream from the town. Union General Ulysses S. Grant responded by ordering an attack against Davis’s forces at Battles Creek Bridge which resulted in a Union victory and control over much of southern Illinois known as “The Valley” after that battle. Riverdale has been home to American troops since World War II when it underwent major changes due to Project Mockingbird which targeted将nners based throughout America with Operation Overlord should they fall within enemy lines-a plan that ultimately failed disastrously due to Allied intelligence failures despite massive amounts of evidence pointing towards their guilt. After World War II ended, many soldiers left Riverdale for other parts of America but some remain today including members of task force Alpha who are currently investigating what happened at Area 51 near Rockford IL on July 16th 2020

Riverdale is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1847 and located on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The population was 44,501 at the 2010 census. The community of Riverdale was organized in 1847 by James Naylor and others as a stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. The first settler to come to Riverdale was George True. In 1850, John Cockerill arrived from England with his family and began planting apple trees in what is now present-day Riverdale. By 1853, there were 10 houses inRiverdale. In 1865, the first railroad train passed throughriverdale; it brought goods from St Louis to Chicago. At that time, the town had three stores and one blacksmith shop. The first post office was established in1868; it named after Lillie Sprague Hickey who donated land for a school and storeroom near her home on State Street. By 1870, there were 15 homes in Riverdale; four of them were built by Jno Doherty and his brother Daniel Doherty for $1 per acre (almost 2 acres). In 1875–76 a large stone church was started by Revs Geo Fenton & Wm Eagleton with lumber provided by Henry Dearborn & Co.; its cornerstone laid on October 9th, 1976 It served as the spiritual center for many years until it burned down in 2006 while under renovation In 1886 Alfred Hitchcock filmed "Theba" over night at an old millrace just downstream from wherepresent-day Riverdalecould be found; most of present day river valley footage came from this film Although much has changed since Hitchcock's time withinRidgeville itself not so much
Riverdale is a small town in southern Illinois. It is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, about thirty-eight miles (53 kilometers) east of Chicago. The population was 9,500 at the 2010 census. The name "Riverdale" comes from two early French settlers, Jacques Cartier and his brother Samuel de Champlain, who visited the area in 1619 and 1620. They named it after a portion of the Saint Lawrence River that they saw from their canoe trip. In 1847, John Pemberton bought some land near where Riverdale now stands for $4 per acre ($48 per km2). He began to build a home there and named it Pemberton Heights after himself and his wife, Jane Cunningham Pemberton. In 1870, Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the United States; he traveled to Illinois to campaign and stayed at Pemberton Heights. When he left for Washington D.C., Vice President John Cermak took over care of Pemberton Heights while Mr. Lincoln attended meetings aboard the USS Constitution on April 12th and 13th, 1870—the first time an American president had ever ridden in a presidential carriage! In 1871–1872, when Illinois State Normal College opened its doors in Decatur, Illinois (now part of DeKalb County), many students came to live in Riverdale because it was close by. The people of Riverdale voted unanimously to incorporate as a village on November 3rd 1892; it was then renamed "Riverdale" after Daniel Webster's district in Massachusetts which became known as "The Village". A post office called "Riverdale" was established at this time; however, mail did not arrive until 1896 due to Creek Nation Indian hostilities along the riverfront! In 1899–1900 James Fenton built what is now known as First National Bank building on Main Street just north of Centerville Road; it would become one of America's largest commercial buildings before being destroyed by fire in 1907. In 1911–1912 Raymond Hitchcock developed what is now known as Hitchcock Park with Lots No 1 & 2; this lot would be used for future housing developments such as Ascot Place which stands today across from First National Bank Building still standing! In 1924 Harry S Truman became president when Franklin D Roosevelt won election against incumbent Herbert Hoover – making Truman America’s 35th president! Union Station closed down during Truman’s tenure but reopened under Eisenhower years later when Interstate 95 was constructed nearby! After leaving office he donated much of his assets including most notably his presidential library/museum complex to Barnard College where both he and Eleanor Roosevelt taught classes until her death in 2008! Finally starting construction on Interstate 495 just south of town Center Drive backfired catastrophically resulting in dozens more homes being lost downstream along with hundreds more dollars worth lessphalt being laid down creating one large industrial wasteland nicknamed “The Riverside Empire” today?
