In 1990, Aeroflot Airlines donated an Ilyushin Il-38M jet trainer to AFBU as a gift for aviation education at River Forest High School. River Forest, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. River Forest is bordered by South Shore on the east, Westchester on the west, and Calumet Heights to the north and south. The river that runs through River Forest is named after two of its largest landowners: Samuel Inskeep and his son-in-law James Kirkland. Inskeep had a mill built in 1802 near what is now US Highway 6 and State Route 12 in River Forest so he couldexport flour from his mills in Weymouth and Quincy. The mill closed in 1881 but parts of it still stand today as residences such as Kirkland House (built 1892) and Inskeep Tower (1946). As early as 1847, local farmers were growing cotton here because of its low water needs. In 1860, American Civil War General Ulysses S Grant visited this area while attending a conference at Peoria University; his tent was set up on a bluff overlooking the river where he enjoyed dinner with locals before going to bed at night. Grant stayed here for several days before continuing on to Peoria. In 1865, whenriver reached its present course near modern day Grayslake IL., settlers began moving into what would become River Forest from nearby villages like Maywood and Harper Woods because they wanted parcels of land that would be available for farming or development only if bought by someone who owned all or part of the village center (the current downtown district around city hall). By 1880 most of what now makes up River Forest had been developed - some homes remain standing today including Kirkland House which overlooks both streets near it - but much remained rural until annexation by Chicago in 1962 gave all residents within one municipality access to all public services - including education, grocery stores and employment opportunities - although some businesses continue to operate outside ofRiver Forrest even though they are not municipally recognized."

Many other branches and units within USAAF have participated in thiscampaign over time, including Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and Strategic Air Command (SAC). It is clear that when it comes to giving back, USAAF members are no strangers to generosity!

River Forest, Illinois was a small town located in Sangamon County, Illinois. The town was founded by John Jacob Astor in 1847, and until the early 1900s it was one of the most prosperous towns in Sangamon County. River Forest became known for its manufacturing industry, especially its textiles. After World War II, the town's fortunes declined as more jobs moved to larger cities. However, River Forest has revived over the past few decades and is now an important cultural and economic center in the region. In 1847, John Jacob Astor founded River Forest on a tract of land he had purchased from his father-in-law, Potawatomi Chief Tecumseh Kane. Astor named his new town after himself—the "Forest" because of how much wood he felt forested land would provide him with for his businesses. river ferns were also grown here at that time due to their high water content which made them long lasting plants. In 1853, astor built a sawmill and began producing lumber for local residents and for export to other parts of America. By 1870 River Forest had a population of about 150 people who included many farmers and their families who lived off the farm produce they grew or mined on their properties. By 1840s many farming families had left Sangamon County to move westward into Indiana Territory due to political pressure from United States President James Krieger (1809-1865). Many settlers found new homes in what is now River Forest when they discovered this area was remote and lightly populated compared to other areas east of Chicago including Aurora (then called Danville) and Moline (then called Rock Island). Parts of present day Sangamon County were first settled by refugees from eastern Illinois during the 1830s when large numbers of people fled Peoria Township following Andrew Jackson's victory in the Ulysses S Grant–Andrew Dayton Civil War (1863- 1865). Many men from these settlements went west looking for better opportunities than those offered east of Springfield; someigrated as far as Kansas City before finally settling down in present day Sangaman County near Carbondale(now Urbana). The first settler at today's site on Decatur Street was George Hennepin who purchased two acres next door to whereriver ferns thrived back then; he used this property as his home base while exploring adjacent lands which later became part of present day River Forest. Another early purchaser was Abraham Lincoln who bought six acres along Decatur Street between First Avenue/Upper Arlington Roadand Second Ave/Southaven Boulevard around 1857 when he opened up a store called The Store on Adams Street within easy walking distance both northbound road traffic traveling through downtown Chicago heading southbound arrived at Decatur St.—a spectacle still seen today! Aurora’s founder Samuel Turner established another store just southwest across Upper Arlington Rd.(near current day Southaven Blvd.)from whereDecatur St./Adams Ave./Upper Arlington Rd., intersected about 1860 A family name still resident thereabouts: Turner ran an grocery business until 1925 before purchasing land adjoining modern day Canal Winchester Golf Course & Resort—RIVER FOREST GOLF COURSE! Numerous others followed suit over ensuing years until only 10% or so original settlers remain living off original farmsstead lots today . . . Altogether around 2400 souls resided hereabouts back then including 400 men employed full time processing lumber + making textiles etc… census taken 1870 estimated population at 1400 majority white ! The River Forest community began as a small farming village in the late 1800s. The community was founded by Dutch farmers who immigrated to Illinois. The settlers who founded River Forest were typically farmers of small acreage and had few means of transportation so they relied on the rivers for water supplies. In 1916, the state legislature passed a bill that created a public land reserve in eastern Cook County that would be used to provide water to the town of River Forest. The towns of river forest, DeKalb, and Bloomington were also designated as part of the new reserve. The original settlers in River Forest were generally poor quality people who could not afford large tracts of land or transportation so they depended on their local rivers for food and water supplies. Over time, however, some members of the community became wealthy through trading with other towns in Cook County and elsewhere. As the town grew more prosperous, it began to build its own infrastructure including a schoolhouse and library. In 1935,river forest also became one of the first communities in Illinois to receive power from hydroelectricity from Lake Michigan
