Richton Park is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1881 by George Richards and his brother Amos Richards as a place for farmers to market their goods. George Richards used the name "Richton" because he had been born in Richthoven Township, England. The first post office was established in 1882, and the community received its current name two years later when it became part of Richthoven Township.
