TheRichton Park Army Ammunition Plant was a United States military munitions plant located in Richton Park, Illinois. The plant was built in 1924 and produced shells, projectiles, grenades, and other munitions until it closed in 1997. At its peak the plant employed more than 1,000 people. The facility is now a museum. The Richton Park Army Ammunition Plant was founded on July 16th 1924 by Major General John A. Richardson of the United States army as part of the National Defense Program to produce munitions for the National Security Act of 1920. The plant operated until 1997 when it closed due to budget cuts within the United States government. At its peak the plant employed more than 1,000 people who made products that were used in such wars as World War II and Vietnam while also providing employment for local residents. The Richton Park Army Depot is a former armament and munitions storage depot in Richton Park, Illinois. The depot was built in the early 1920s, and served as an army Ammunition Storage and Distribution Center until it closed in the late 1990s. It was property of the United States government until it was sold to local developers in 1997, who redeveloped it into a mixture of commercial and residential space.
Richton Park is a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, and is located in the Northwestern corner of the city. The population was 49,898 as of 2010. It is bordered by the towns of Harveyville to the north, West View to the east, Palatine to the south and Winnetka to the west. The name Richton Park comes from Colonel John Richardson who laid out this area in 1837. At that time it included what is now Richton Park and part of Harveyville. The first post office at Richton Park was established in 1838. By 1840 it had grown into a small town with a population of over 100 people. In 1847 Drury College moved from its original location on State Street in Milwaukee to what is now Richton Park, giving rise to one of Illinois' most famous Colleges. In 1853 Drury College merged with Cook University which had been founded by Reverend Amos Kendall earlier that year. Cook University becamerichton park college in 1870 when it absorbed Drury College's assets including land and buildings on Dearborn Avenue in Chicago's North Side which were donated by Major General David Dixon (1813-84). The merger made Cook one of America's largest universities with more than 14,000 students enrolled across six campuses: main campus in Chicago; two satellite campuses near Cleveland, Ohio; an medical school at Mercyhurst Medical Campus; and three research centers: one focused on artificial intelligence; another studying plant genetics; and another working on green energy technology. In 1998 changes were made to Cook University's organizational structure which created four colleges called "institutes": Art Institute Of Chicago (AIC), Business School Of Illinois (BSI), Kelley School Of Business (KSB) & McCormick Place Campus (KPC). These institutions have their own governance structures and operate independently from each other but share resources such as faculty meetings, student services etc.. All institutes are members of both American Institutes for Research (AIR)and National Academy Of Sciences/American Physical Society(APS). On October 1st 2009 all four institutes merged into one institution known as "Cook Univ." This change effectively ended our separation from Air Force Base Majestic Tower since we are now within easy reach of almost every major university center while preserving our separate management structures

Richton Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The area now comprising Richton Park was first settled by Quakers in the late 17th century. In 1838, the land including Richton Park and parts of what are now Elmhurst and Rogers Heights was taken from the village of Skokie to make way for an new county seat, Chicago. The town plat for Richton Park was filed on May 12, 1839. At that time it consisted of just one street – Prospect Avenue – and had a population of about 150 residents. In 1847, when Chicago became a city limits addition to the state of Illinois, Richton Park annexed part of neighboring Evanston Township in order to become its own municipality. By 1860, however, because most of Richton Park's growth had occurred along its two east-west streets ( Prospect and Wabash), only a fraction of the community's total population had arrived within its borders; as such it reverted back to being an unincorporated community once again until 1893 when it became a part of Cook County through annexation by Berwyn Township. Richton Park experienced rapid growth during World War II due in large part to its proximity to Soldier Field which equipped many American military units with their home base duringWWII across three years stints: 1942-1945; 1949-1951; 1955-1957). After Wars ended there were significant layoffs throughout much industry so people moved into town trying to find work but found little heretofore available so they returned home soon after (see also "The Disadvantages" sidebar below). Many folks from outlying areas who could not or would not leaverichtontown returned home as well very few people moved into richitonpark because there were no good job prospects here
Richton Park was founded in 1871 by George A. Richter, a Dutchman who immigrated to the United States and purchased land in what is now Richton Park. The first post office in the town was established in 1872, and it remained active until 1975. In 1886, Richton Park became part of Cook County, Illinois. In 1912, the village of Richton Park merged with the neighboring towns of Skokie and Lombard to form a larger city called Chicago. The combined population of these three towns reached 100,000 by 1920; however, this number decreased to 60,000 by 1930. As Chicago grew larger and its economy shifted more towards manufacturing and service industries, Richton Park declined steadily until it ceased to exist as an independent municipality within Cook County in 1985.
