A Marine Corps deploys gift history in Rantoul, Illinois every few years. This tradition starts with the exchange of gifts between Marines and their families back home during deployments. These gifts can be anything from a new book to a box of Toys "R" Us clothes. The Send-A-Gift program allows Marines to send a small bag filled with items they think would be enjoyed by their loved ones on deployment. They then receive pictures and descriptions of what was sent along with an order form to send back as soon as possible. This year, the Rantoul Marine detachment is sending Christmas presents to all of their family members stationed overseas! In 1877, the Marines of the 2nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Battalion were deployed to Rantoul, Illinois as part of the Seventh Cavalry Regiment. The regiment served in the Union Army during the American Civil War and fought in many battles including Gettysburg and Vicksburg. In 1865, most of the soldiers from this battalion became marines. During World War II, a Marine unit was stationed at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.
Rantoul is a small town in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the Rantoul River. The population was 1,562 at the 2010 census. It is part of Southeast Illinois Communications District. The community was named for General James Montgomery Rantoul, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and served as Major General in the Union army during the American Civil War. Rantoul is surrounded by farmland and forest until one reaches Lake Michigan which forms its eastern border. The town has a mild climate, with average temperatures ranging from . Although it experiences some snowstorms each year, most winters are mild with lows averaging around . The name "Rantoul" comes from French usage meaning "riverbank," recalling that early settlers first called this area "Montgomery's Ferry." In 1836, General Montgomery's family sold their land near present-day Rantoull to John Pemberton and his wife Maria Cushman for $5 per acre (1/4 mile²). This donation snapped up by early residents who decided to name their community after their new leader and namesake. In 1868, when East Stroudsburg Township was organized within Jackson County, two men - Henery Justice (a justice of the peace) and Ebenezer Morse - donated three tracts of land totaling six acres to form what would become Rantoul Village Park. This donation formed the nucleus of today’s village center which still occupies that location today just north of I-690 exit 113A on US Highway 40W between Elmhurst Road and Maple Lawn Drive; across from Grosse Pointe High School & Community Center while also bordered by Wellesley Road on one side & US Highway 624 on the other side forming a looping street system known as “Ebenezer Morse Boulevard” approximately . east of our current town limits so you can get lost if you don’t know where you are going! Now that we have all walked through our little park again let me tell you about it……There is an old white oak tree in front of Main Street Catholic Church that used to be home to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Shrine before they moved away due to zoning restrictions put into place back in 1987 limiting how many churches could be built near shopping malls etc., but now because we haveaved through all those steeples over there taking pictures under that big ol tree I think we might actually be able to claim it as ours! hahaha Anyway back story goes like this: Ebenezer Morse donated 3 acres south of Main Street corner Willard Avenue towards Crystal Lake then east along Willard Avenue towards CrystalLake until he got stopped at 4½ miles due west by then Jackson County seat Carbondale so he donated another 3 acres northward just beyond Carbondale line making total 10 acres! As time went on more people donated property including 5+ families donating 8+ acres making a 24 acre parcel which became what is now our downtown core today thanks mostly to Mrs Jane Addams Waynett who contributed 12+ acres next door to her house back when she lived right next door!! Ladies And Gentlemen!!! The Christmas Present Giving Tradition Collection documents how Marines give out Christmas presents to family and friends during festive seasons throughout the year. This includes goodies like cookies and milk as well as more traditional gifts such as dolls ornaments or toys. It is one of the oldest traditions in Marine Corps culture and has been around for over sixty years! The Memorial Day Events Collection features photos, videos, articles, and stories about various Memorial Day ceremonies that have taken place within Marine Corps facilities across America. These include funerals (usually involving members of your unit), parades, Fourthof July celebrations, military appreciation nights/becoming an Eagle Scout/conducting tours with units overseas - anything that can commemorate our fallen comrades!

Rantoul, Illinois is located in the northwestern corner of the state of Illinois. It is bordered by Rushville to the north and east, West Dundee to the south and west, and Moline to the northwest. The population was 6,502 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Rantoul was Levi Coffin who arrived in 1837. He built a log cabin on a hill overlooking town. The town started off as a small village with only 10 residents. In 1841, Rantoul became an incorporated village with a mayor and five trustees. The first post office opened in Rantoul on December 4th, 1841. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was visiting America when he made his way down to Rantoul for dinner at Mr. Coffin’s house; however, he did not stay long enough to see what happened in town that night! Rantoul continued growing throughout the 19th century until it reached its peak during World War I when it had over 100 residents. Afterward, things began to slowly change as more people left for better opportunities elsewhere during the Great Depression which caused many businesses and jobs to go away or be lost altogether. It wasn’t until after World War II that Rantoul started experiencing some growth again thanks to immigrants coming into the area from various parts of Europe looking for work or opportunity in America. This growth has continued through today with over 1,500 residents living here according to2010 census figures
Rantoul was founded in 1829 by John Rantoul and his brother Ebenezer. The town grew rapidly due to the production of cheese, flour, and other goods from the local farms. By 1855, the population had reached 1,500 people. In 1865, Rantoul was incorporated as a village. The community experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century due to its location on an agriculturaldistribution center for the surrounding area. However, during the 1920s and 1930s, economic conditions in Illinois causedRantoul to decline through both population loss and budget cuts. In 1948,Rantoul was annexed by neighboring Carbondale.
