There has been an army deployed gift history in Rantoul, Illinois for many years. The first military installation in the town was Fort Dearborn in 1818. The fort was built to protect the residents of Rantoul from Native American attacks. After it was decommissioned, the land around it became a military base and equipment store for the Illinois militia. In 1827, General James K. Polk sent 5,000 soldiers to invade Missouri during the Mexican-American War. One of the cannons that were captured at La Mesilla was transported back to Rantoul by wagon and artillery convoy. In 1852, General David Ziegler purchased 1,500 acres of land east of town and began construction on what would become Camp Douglas. The camp would serve as a training ground for Illinois troops during the 1850s and 1860s. It is said that Ziegler named his camp after Captain Jonathan Edwards who had commanded units stationed at Fort Dearborn in 1818-1907. Edwards had served as a scout for General Winfield Scott during operations against Mexico City in 1846-47 and helped lead an attack on Monterrey which resulted in more than 100 civilian casualties including 15 women and 6 children. After Camp Douglas closed in 1865, its site became home to Ft Quincy Army Depot where munitions were stockpiled before being used in World War I and World War II. In 1986, Chapin Elementary School opened its doors next to Ft Quincy Army Depot when it merged with Ft Quincy Junior High School District #2 into one school district]. That same year saw the dedication of Soldier's Memorial Park which honored all members of our military who have died since 1945]. Today Soldier's Memorial Park includes a visitor center where you can learn about local military installations throughout Rantoul], a rifle range where you can shoot targets], an event hall where you can rent space for events]and much more!

Rantoul, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The history of Rantoul can be traced back to 1827 when three men from Preble County traveled down the Chicago River and founded a trading post on the banks of the Rantoul Creek. The first settler in what would become Rantoul was Samuel Palmer who arrived in 1829. By 1840, there were twenty-four people living in Rantoul. In 1865, nine men from Edwardsville moved into what became Rantoul and began to farm land that now makes up much of the town center. In 1882, James Wickersham built a school house and store in what is today the downtown core of Rantoull

Rantoul is an unincorporated community in Scott County, Illinois, United States. The community is located on the Rantoul-Normal Road, east of Normal. According to the 2010 census, the population was 1,827.
Rantoul was a small community in Cook County, Illinois, located on the banks of the Rantoul River. The community was founded in 1868 by James and Elizabeth (Finch) Rantoul, who named their farm after their birthplace,RANTOUL, Scotland. The first post office at Rantoul was established in 1869. The community began to grow rapidly after it became known for its excellent fishing resources and its location close to Chicago. In 1893, the town had a population of only 100 people. However, by 1907, Rantoul had grown to 1,500 residents. During World War II, many soldiers from Rantoul enlisted in the military as part of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). Many of these servicemen helped contribute to victory during the war effort. In 1945, when the war ended and America emerged from it victorious, many members of the town returned home and started anew. In 1960, however, when Illinois merged with Indiana into the new state of Indiana Jones and The Raiders (laterIndiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom), much of what remained behind in Cook County were given up for development into larger towns such as South Bend and Terre Haute respectively - leaving Rantoul largely unchanged since then other than becoming a bedroom community for larger cities like Indianapolis or Hammondsville
