Tactical coffee history in Quincy, Illinois began in the 1920s. The first café on this site was opened by Harry Guggenheim and his brother-in-law, Julius Rosenwald. They served coffee under the name of The Guggenheim Coffee House. In 1929, Harry Guggenheim's son, Bob, opened the first Starbucks in Quincy. This establishment became a popular spot for customers to drink coffee and meet friends. It was at Starbucks that Tim Ferriss learned about coffee and decided to open his own business in 1994. Since then, many more businesses have popped up throughout Quincy to serve tactical coffee enthusiasts with their unique flavor profile and service experience. The area that would become Quincy was owned by several different groups before being organized as a town in 1812 by legislation passed by Congress under President James K. Polk as part of an effort led by then-Secretaryof State Andrew Jackson to encourage settlement along riverfrontside properties that were seen as strategic for commerce and military operations during America's War for Independence against Great Britain In 1819, DNA testing confirmed that Quincys Native American ancestor was Chief Joseph Potawatomi from Council Bluffs Iowa . Quincy, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern corner of Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is located on the southern edge of Chicagoland. Quincy was organized as a village in 1836, and became a city in 1961. Quincy's history can be traced back to 1836 when it was organized as a village by the government of what is now DuPage County. In 1837, it became an incorporated town with a population of just over 100 people. Quincy's first mayor was Daniel Webster (1835-1853). The first post office opened in Quincy on March 12th, 1840. That same year also saw the first public school open in Quincy with Mrs. Sarah Loring serving as its first teacher/mistress. Mrs. Loring taught for two years before opening her own school which would remain operational until 1949 when it closed due to financial difficulties caused by World War II and then becoming an aftermarket store; however Mrs. Loring continued to teach until her death in 1951). In 1861, Quincy became a city under the leadership of Mayor James Kilburn (1841-1900), who reorganized it into wards based on racial lines instead of geographical ones like that used at that time within American cities such as Chicago (such as Jackson Heights), which resulted in white Protestants making up almost 60% of the population while African Americans made up only 10%. The first black person to serve as Mayor of Quincy was Wirt Watkins (1901-1905). After Mayor Kilburn's death in 1900, James Hennigan took control until he resigned from office on December 15th, 1912 due to health reasons; Hennigan had been seeking mayoralty since 1909 but had not yet won an election despite being ahead by nearly 20 percentage points at that point according to unofficial results compiled by journalist Arthur Ashe during his mayoral campaign later that year[1]. On January 5th 1913 incumbent Democrat George Biddle announced he would run for mayor against Hennigan but withdrew days later after learning about Hennigan's health issues[2]. Republican John Jannaway ran unopposed and won easily becoming Boston Edison Company Director Mayor through 2022[3]. In 1922 Democratic challenger Averell Harriman lost narrowly[4] while Republican nominee Harry Elmer Barnes won easily taking over for Jannaway who had served four terms consecutively between 1921 and 1922[5]. On November 2nd 1924 Harry Elmer Barnes were elected City Councilman defeating Republican Socialists Leonard Krasnowitzki with 55% of the vote via machine recounting ballots cast early that morning following altercation between Krasnowitzki and Barnes outside City Hall during night hours; this event has come to be commonly known locally as "The Night Of The Blue Flag" or simply "The Battle".
