In the early 1800s, Prospect Heights was a small country town in the heart of Chicago. The area now known as Prospect Heights was part of New Sweden Colony and its population numbered only around 100 people in 1827 when Captain John Jacob Astor founded the village on a farm he purchased from the Mikmaq. The first military unit to be stationed at Prospect Heights was a company of militia which served under Captain Jacob Nesselrode from 1833-1835. In 1840, General James K. Polk ordered 1,500 soldiers brought over from Vandalia to garrison Prospect Heights and provide security for Chicago during the Black Hawk War. After America's war with Mexico began in 1846, Chicagoans begged President James K. Polk to send more troops to protect their city but he rejected their pleas citing that Illinois had already contributed enough manpower to defend itself. In 1850, prospectors discovered gold near what is now West Side Highway and quickly became embroiled in the gold rush. The population of prospecting camp grew rapidly as word spread about the good soil, water supplies, and easy access to resources in this unique region. As early as 1851 there were plans for an army detachment called "The Independent Company" which would serve as a nucleus for later units such as "The United States Infantry Regiment." After years of effort by local residents and prominent citizens like Colonel Robert McCormick, Colonel George Armstrong Custer's regiment disembarked at Grant Park on May 9th 1865 ready for deployment against Confederate forces within Illinois territory (the so-called " 4teenth parallel"). Prospect Heights also played an important role in American history during World War II when many manufacturing plants were located here including aircraft manufacturer Curtiss-Wright Newspapers or Procter & Gamble who built up their empire here after moving its headquarters from Wilmington Delaware back into Chicago following World War I .

The unit has served in a variety of assignments over the years, including defense of Illinois during the American Civil War and World War II. In recent years, the unit has been mobilized for both natural disasters and deployments to Afghanistan.
Prospect Heights is a small, unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 714 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of Chicago. The first settler in Prospect Heights was James Hutton who arrived in 1843. Hutton built a log cabin on the current site of the Community House School which he named "Hutton's Grove". In 1847, John Prentice bought land from Hutton and started to build a house known as "Prentice's Cabin" which still stands today. In 1865, Isaac Stevens bought land from Prentice and began to build a home known as "Stevens' Hut". In 1868, Elijah Parish purchased land from Stevens and started to build a home known as "Parish's Home". In 1871, Augustus Kelley bought land from Parish and started to build a home known as "Kelley's Home". The first post office in Prospect Heights was established here on July 30th, 1872 by Wm.Mason with the name of "Kelley's Post Office" (later changed to "Post Office Park"). The community had its first schoolhouse which was built by Mrs. Clough in 1875. A Methodist Church was built in 1897 by Reverend Cushman and dedicated on April 6th also called Post Office Park Methodist Episcopal Zion Church or simply Post Office Park Church because it served all residents of Prospect Heights regardless of denominational affiliation or lack thereof! Reverend Cushman later became an archbishop in Chicago after serving his church there for many years until his death in 1935!
