In 1954, Greater Dallas annexed much of north central Dallas creating a new municipality that took its name from the newly created municipal boundaries: Plano County (later named Fort Worth). In 1970, Richardson County annexed most of northeastern Plano bringing its population up to 100 000 residents; however, Richardson never annexed any of southern or eastern Plano which continued to be part of Dallas through annexation by Arlington Heights in 1984 and then Bothell Township in 1998; both annexation were repealed upon their respective communities’s incorporation into Arlington Heights. Finally, Grayson County annexed eastern Plano (including what is now western Elmwood) on February 14th 2002 effective immediately followingerve annexation by Garland County concurrent with their impending incorporation into Garland County. This completed annexation provides a contiguous plan covering all unincorporated areas withinplanoise bounded by I-10 Exit 241 south (west side), US 95W south (east side), FM 471N east (southwest side), and TX 375E west (northwest side). The City of Plano has seen rapid growth throughout its history – reaching an estimated 10% population increase per year between 2000 and 2010 – with current plans for even more growth chronicling plans for 30% (+20%) growth by 2020!
