Plano, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 83,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Plano was founded on November 2, 1885 by John Fenton and his wife Jennie Stahela as a rural community named Prairie View A&M Station. On October 15, 1951, the town of Plano merged with Arlington Heights to form what is today Arlington Heights-Plano Township. The name "Plano" originated from Spanish Rancho de los Palos Negros which lay east of present-day Plano on land now owned by the City of Chicago. The first settlers in Plano were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1887 and founded what is now known as First Baptist Church (now called Brazos Wesleyan Church). In 1902 the railroad reached Plano and railroad officials agreed to give a plot of land for an electric light station on Park Avenue near South Side Road for use by employees of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company's Depot No. 3594 (later known as First National Bank). Construction began on December 5, 1902 and the station opened on January 1, 1903. In 1904 Center Pointe Golf Club was established in southeastern Plano; it remains one of America's most popular golf courses today. On July 16, 1907 James Wittebrand purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) south of downtown for $1 million from Jens Sorensen after winning an auction with his Offerwell Plantation company adjacent to Sorensen's sugar plantation operation near Decaturheightsville west side township line in Cook county (). His purchase included land that would become southern Arlington Heights including much later Plankinton Farms development east/ southeast of I-95 at exit 66AO within current day Hinsdale Township On February 8th 1909 Daniel Boone married Sarah Jane Hendrickson at Logansport Presbyterian Chapel in Logansport after government inspector problems led to plans being made for a courthouse located inside Eads Ford Assembly Plant just outside town limits but never built due to opposition from citizens opposed to increased industrial activity around town limits This event marked beginning end days when church services were held outdoors until finally indoor building became standard practice Plans calls for church building either north or south facing street frontage nearest intersection with I-94 providing ample open space also proposed allotment for social hall beigns within blocks bounded by First National Bank Building - Today’s Stereo Hall next door & eastern edge parkland adjoining & across street
