Airforce gift history in Plano, Illinois began with the installation of an air force base here in 1941. The city's first airfield was a small dirt field at the corner of Elm and Elm streets. Today, the airport is home to four major USAF units - Air Force Base Fort Worth, Air Force Base Wichita Falls, Air Force Base Decatur and Air National Guard Unit 114th Fighter Wing. The city also features two smaller USAF installations - Joint Reserve Command Headquarters-Fort Worth and Tactical Airlift Wing-Plano. The City of Plano was incorporated on December 14, 1945. It was one of many cities that were merged into the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Authority during World War II. On November 9, 1951, the Republic Aviation Corporation opened its first commercial airport - Midway Airport - in Plano with Boeing 727s and Douglas DC-6s. By 1963 Midway Airport had become a bustling regional hub for Texas Airways Airlines (TAA), Delta SkyMiles (DAL) and American Airlines (AAL). In 1967 TAA moved its operations from Midway to Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport after purchasing all of Delta's assets there. In 1984 TAA merged with Continental Airlines (Concorde) to form American Eagle Airlines (AAL). On May 1st, 1991 Confederate Flight School relocated from Memphis AL to Plano TX as part of a federally funded program to relocate aircraft schools away from open areas such as New York City or Washington D C during the early 1990s when those areas were experiencing significant budget cuts brought about by then President George H W Bush's administration. With this move came an end to plans forMidway Airport to become an international airport serving Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport only due to concerns over runway capacity at that time which would have required more renovation than what was originally planned for Confederate Flight School . In 1992 Northwest Orienteering Inc., a company engaged in training military parachutists using precision mapping devices became registered as a business entity with the state of Texas under section 1553a(h) of the UTIAS Laws effective July 1st1992 pursuant to Travis County Code § 12B-2-101(h). This allowed them not only operate out of their hangar lot adjacent northeast corner Of Seventh Street & IH 35W but they also started providing classes on precision flying techniques utilizing various types aircraft including Beechcraft Baron turboprops operated by Captains Wally Hegedusiand Rick Woodruff at Northwest Orienteering' s facility located immediately east side Of Sixth Street just south Of Interstate 35W between Arlington Rd And IH 35W

Plano is a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, on the west side of the state of Texas. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth County, and had a population of 183,512 as of 2013. The city was founded in 1876 by Hermann Wilhelm von Ostenhaus and is named after him. Plano is one of ten cities that comprise Arlington County, Texas. The name "Plano" comes from an Apache chief's sojourn to this area in 1827. Plano began as a farming community on what is now called Farm Road 231 near present day Preston Road. On May 6, 1876 – less than two months after Fort Worth became a municipality – local residents met at the home of Mrs. Joice Hogg to adopt a plan for their new town site which they named "Plano". Von Ostenhaus donated 3 acres (1 km²) southeast of his farmhouse to be their first town center. The plat included three blocks bounded by Preston Road, Industrial Drive and East Street; it contained 11 dwellings and served as the nucleus around which development proceeded over time. This early formative period has been collectively cited as one significant reason for Plano's growth over subsequent decades into one of North Texas' most well-known communities."

By 1925, Plano had over 100 businesses and 1,500 residents. In 1940, Plano became the first city in Texas to be designated an advocate for war prevention by the United States Congress.
