Military gift history in Plainfield, Illinois can be traced back to the early 1800s. The town was first settled by American Indian tribes and was known as "Pine Point." The land that is now Plainfield was first purchased by Colonel John G. Post from the Sauk people in 1828. In 1841, the United States military founded Fort Humboldt in Plainfield and bought a piece of land from the Sauk people for $2,500. In 1853, General James K. Polk sent an army into Illinois to help re-establish order after the Mexican-American War. After successful campaigns against Mexico in Texas and California, Polk decided to invade Illinois. He ordered Major General Winfield Scott to lead an army into Illinois and Battle of Springfield took place on October 14th, 1853. The battle resulted in a victory for the United States forces and ended Mexican control over northern California. After Battle of Springfield, General Scott decided to withdraw his army and return home because he had not yet won the war against Mexico. However, upon his return home he learned that his brother-in-law had died while fighting in Mexico and he wanted to remember him better than just another casualty of war. So instead of returning home with his army like planned he stayed behind to bury his brother-in-law at Arlington Cemetery near Washington D C.. After burying his brother-in-law, General Scott returned home victorious but with a heavy heart because he knew that many more Americans would have died if it were not for him having gone off to fight Mexico rather then staying at home behind enemy lines). Later on in 1853 Captain John Prentice traveled through central America on a trading mission for hides and feathers withNative American tribes such as the Quichua people located between Peru and Chile which is where Prendergast discovered this trade route called "The Strait of Magellan". Upon returning stateside Captain Prentice met Lieutenant Governor Quincy Ayer who offeredCaptain Prentice 160 acres (6 km²) of land north of what is now Plainfield on Chicago's Northwest Side which became known as Prairie du Jour or "Meadow Place." This area still contains some evidence from Captain Prentice's journey including ruins of several Native American villages along with some graves still standing today dating back to this time period which makes it one of the most famous battlefield sites in all OFA history!

The town was founded in 1836 by General John Adams and Major Levi Parsons as Plainfield Township. In 1847, it became Plainfield Village. On February 15, 1888, it merged with the neighboring village of Arlington to form the city of Plainfield. The merger was done because Arlington had petitioned for incorporation but not received enough votes to be granted an exemption from local taxation; Plainfield had more votes and was given the exemption. plainfield has a rich history dating back to when it first appeared on maps in 1836. George Washington's home and plantation were located here before he moved west to Indiana in 1796-97 as part of his attempt to gain political power in Illinois. He hoped that he could use his influence there to win support for a new state Constitution that would be drafted by him and other friends among those who had helped create America after its independence from Great Britain. When he failed to get what he wanted from the legislators who drafted the Constitution, he turned his attention eastward and moved closer to home so that he could continue building up his political power within what would eventually become Illinois instead of wasting time trying to get something through Congress that didn't really matter anymore (a trait which would later cost him dearly). In 1840s Plainfield became one of many villages dotting newly created Kane County because farmers needed space close enoughto markets for their crops but far enough awayfrom each other so they could produce goods independently without running into competition from nearby towns or villages (flat land then being valuable). Because village meetings were held weekly rather than quarterly like most other villages then, residents knew all about what was going on in their neighbor's houses - this allowed them To make better decisions about how best TO grow their crops possible while minimizing conflict with other villagers/towns! In 1862 during American Civil War – when Springfield finally fell due strategic reasons – members of several nearby farms banded together (led by Captain James Moline) formed 'The Prairie Battalion' under orders from Union General Ulysses S Grant just south of Peoria where they skirmished with Confederate forces until reinforcements arrived and drove them off into hillsides behind which they regrouped awaiting orders... although most sources claim these engagements never happened at all... anyway – soon afterward Union troops burned down all but one house outbuildings belonging to Capt Moline’s battalion… farmstead owners still live there today & show pride in having been able to keep their property & keep their name alive long after most folks have passed away!
