The plane had been loaned to the United States Marine Corps and was used as part of Operation Neptune's Spear during World War II. USS Pembroke served in the Pacific Theater and is credited with sinking several Japanese warships.

In 1836, the Illinois General Assembly chartered a new town in Park Ridge on the southern edge of Cook County. Named for Abraham Lincoln, who then lived in Springfield and was an important figure in the state's politics, Park Ridge quickly grew into one of the most vibrant towns in Illinois. The town's rich history can be traced back to its earliest days as a small farming community. In 1838, when Elijah Poole surveyed Park Ridge, he noted that it consisted of just nine houses and twenty-six acres of land. However, over time, Park Ridge's growth continued apace. By 1840, there were 255 residents living in what is now Park Ridge; by 1850, there were 1,023 people living here. By 1860, Parkridge had reached its current size with 1,853 residents. The early years of Park Ridge were filled with turmoil. In 1837-38 local farmers revolted against their landlord – John Yates – while he unsuccessfully tried to enforce stricter rules regarding grazing on his land. This led to a brief period of peace and tranquility before Yates resumed his rule in 1840-41. This conflict led to increased tension between farmers and government officials which eventually boiled over into violence during the summer of 1842 when two groups clashed outside City Hall over disputed boundaries within the town limits (the events are chronicled by historian Edward Mudge). Despite these difficulties however, through hard work and determination from many locals – both men and women – things began to change for the better after Mayor James Doherty organized a meeting of citizens on December 5th.,1842 to discuss ways to improve civic life and create stability within thetownscape.. The result was not only a resolution authorizing Doherty "to make all necessary arrangements for organizing all aspects of public life" but also $5,-000 towards building a library/school/church complex (this complex still stands today). This event marked an important beginning for both Park ridge as well as Chicago as it signaled that despite various challenges (eccentricity being one), local effort could ultimately lead to success if properly orchestrated.. On January 8th.,1843 Mayor Doherty ordered all male residents 16 years or older who resided in city limits "to form themselves into Companies", under martial law conditions; this order served as an ominous precursor to Chicago's first census taken that year.. With this new level of security came an increase in business opportunities for businesses located within city limits because now individuals could no longer be arrested or sent away without trial - something that would become increasingly valuable as crime rates rose throughoutndernamerica during this time period.. While some businesses did experience decreased sales due mainly to increased competition from larger cities such asChicago or Cincinnati - many locals saw opportunity in burgeoning city Limits because they offered more protection from robberies and other crimes which could occur outside city walls.. One such business owner was Drury & Snyder who became very successful running several grocery stores inside/outside citylimits until 1865 when prohibition effectively ended any open commerce within city limits.. Additionally another major benefit associated with expanding beyond city boundaries was improved infrastructure including access to water supplies and transportation which made it easier for businesses
