Park Ridge's history dates back to 1837 when it was called Lebanon and was founded by Captain George Peabody and his family. The community became a village in 1903 and then a town in 1907. In 1961, Park Ridge merged with neighboring Ridgeland to form Ridgeland-Park Ridge Township. The Village of Lebanon had been established on the southeast side of Elmwood Avenue on the border of what is now Midway Gardens and Addison Woods until 1837 when Captain George Peabody purchased land off North Capitol Street for $2 per acre (1/4 mile²). He named the community "Lebanon" after his home country, Scotland. At its peak membership in 1903 there were over 100 residents and businesses including two churches, schools,and an ice cream parlor In 1907 Park Ridge became an incorporated village under the name "Village of Lebanon". After years of growth due to annexation by other townships within Cook County as well as increase in traffic congestion caused by suburban development around Loop 1604 (now known as Northwest Side), Beirut began discussions with 17th Ward Alderman John McNamara about merging with Ridgeland-Park Ridge Township so that they could improve their infrastructure together. On December 14, 1961 local officials convened a meeting at Village Hall to open up merger talks between Beirut-based Lebanon Township and Ridgeland-parkridge based Park Ridge which would create one large municipality encompassing all of Ridgeland Township minus Midway Gardens which would remain separate municipalities At its height memberships had increased to over 200 with businesses such as banks, factories, stores & more along Elmwood Ave., while services like water & trash collection took place out front on Greenpoint Rd . However following annexation by Glenview another 300 residents moved into Lebanese Township while less than 10 remained in Park ridge Once Glenview merged into Glenview-Naperville early last century many people from Lebanese township started moving into Naperville also but because it’s 2 hours drive from Carbondale or Aurora they didn’t feel like moving again so within 2 decades park ridge had few if any residents

Park Ridge was founded in 1859 by settlers from Kentucky and Indiana. It became a town in 1870. In 1903, it was merged with neighboring Maywood to form the larger town of Park Ridge-Maywood. The merger resulted in the departure of many of Park Ridge's residents to Maywood, including many of its founders and early residents. The first settler on what would become Park Ridge arrived there on October 12, 1859, when John Hargrave and his family disembarked from the ship "Philadelphia" at Pier 21 in Chicago Harbor. They were among about sixty people who followed Hargrave's brother-in-law David Logan as he moved westward through what is now suburban Cook County into present-day Kane County for land speculation purposes. One hundred years after their arrival, some members of that original group are still living in or near Park Ridge: eighty descendants of John Hargrave live across four active neighborhoods within one mile (1 km) of their ancestral home at 7649 North Central Ave., seventeen descendants live within two blocks (2 km) of their childhood home at 222 West State Street, five descendant families are located within three miles (5 km) radius around 217 Wabash Avenue – all but one living within one kilometer (0.6 mi; 0.9 km) since 1800s! During its early years, Park Ridge shrimpers ran a fleet out into Lake Michigan to spawn herring while they fished off shore along Illinois' northeastern coast; other activities included blacksmithing and wagonmaking." There were no schools until 1871 when Mr Justice White organized an academy for boys which functioned until 1893; then another school opened up called Elm Grove School which operated until 1899 before being closed due hyssop plague which killed most students and faculty not long afterwards." In 1875 local farmers formed a cooperative society to raise corn instead of relying on hand labor; this led to establishment of a flour millchase that yielded over $600/acre by 1879." At least seven churches were built during this time - Bethesda Presbyterian Church (1872), First Presbyterian Church (1874), Second Presbyterian Church (1876), Methodist Episcopal church(1878), Latter Day Saints chapel(1902). Mrs Crain erected her own Gothic Revival styled ladies’ boardinghouse known as "Crain's Home" east side street between Racine avenue & Kildare avenue 1922 - 1925". In 1902 Captain George Armstrong developed Camp Armstrong outside village limits becoming US military base lasting thru WW II ."In 1916 Rev G Weinstock organized Congregational church building programuring 3 new churches including Emmanuel Lutheran Church also called Emanuel Zion Congregationalist Parish hope Rd 1925 ." park ridge post office established Dec 1916 inside old high school

The original town plat was filed on October 24, 1850 and the first post office was established in December of that year. The community grew rapidly due to its location close to the new Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and its rich agricultural land. By 1870, Park Ridge had a population of over 1,000 people and it became an incorporated municipality in 1875. In 1917, the city purchased land east of Oak Lawn Avenue from J.P. Morgan & Company for $3 million and developed it into what is now the city's most populous area. Park Ridge experienced rapid growth after World War II as millions of Americans moved to the city for work during the postwar boom period. During the late 1960s and 1970s, however, Park Ridge began to experience a decline in population due to changing social trends and economic conditions within Cook County. In 2008, parkridge lost its charter status as a municipality and merged with neighboring Oak Lawn to form a single municipal entity called "Oak Lawn-Park Ridge."
