Park Ridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,651 at the 2010 census. Park Ridge is located in the east-central part of the county and bordered by Aurora to the north, Hinsdale to the northeast, Streamwood to the east, and west by Rockford. Park Ridge is one of two towns in Cook County that are not served by a municipality; its residents are instead served by Park Ridge Township. The first settlers in what is now Park Ridge were farmers who came from New England in 1795. By 1827 all but three of the farms in present-day Park Ridge had been bought or organized into a township association. On December 12, 1828, Daniel Boone founded what would become Rockford on a tract of land south of modern-day Grayslake. In 1830 John Pritzker settled on a farm which he kept until his death in 1886. Other early landowners included John Mabee and Isaac Maynard II. In 1857 Abraham Lincoln visited Rockford while on his way to an election campaign against Richard Muhlenberg. A plaque commemorating Lincoln's visit has been located at Elm Street and First Avenue in Rockford since 1977 as part of Mayor Tom Barrett's efforts to commemorate important civic moments during his time as mayor

One of the first settlers to Park Ridge was Isaac Mynster who arrived with his family in 1837. He built a home on what is now First Street. Mynster’s son-in-law, John Kneeland, also arrived in1837 and built his own home on what is now Second Street. In 1840, David Sitchield bought land from Nicholas Pratt for $200 dollars which he donated to the community for use as a park. Sitchield named it “Park Ridge” after himself and his brother Moses Sitchield who had owned the property before him. By 1851, most of the people living in Park Ridge were born there or within 10 miles (16 km) of its boundaries according to census records kept at that time by the United States Census Bureau In 1863 when America entered into war with Mexico over their shared territory along the US-Mexico border following General Santa Anna’s Uprising against Mexican rule across Mexico City, many residents decided to flee Mexico for safety reasons knowing that war would inevitable if they stayed behind cook Amos Gedney moved with his family from Pueblo de Tierra Blanca westward through Kansas Territory towards Dodge City about this time Gedney saw an opportunity to purchase some land lying east side Of present day Randolph Road between Topeka and Wichita Streets as well as some other tracts situated east bank Of current day Highways 53 & 64 near future Union Depot Road After much discussion among all concerned Gedney purchased 4256 acres extending from present day Randolph Road between Topeka and Wichita Streets cornering on first ago swampy ground NEAR WILKES AREA known today as SWAMPY ROAD CROSSING aka Ganglion Springs If I may so ask did any one offer inducement money etc.? No not one offered anything but we unanimously voted4256 acres=4 square miles=area now included within Limits set forth In Constitution And Declaration OF Independence This was done at A Workshop organised jointly With American Battlefield Foundation On October 28th 1959 At Which Time Our Mayor Seward Made Presentation

By 1850, Park Ridge had a population of 3,500 people and it became an important center for trade and commerce. Park Ridge experienced significant economic development during the late 19th century due to its location near several railroads and its access to water resources.
