The first small batch coffee shop in Park Forest was the Coffee Gallery. The Coffee Gallery was opened in 1984 by Craig and Denise Bechtel. They started out selling coffee from their home, but soon began to sell coffee on the side of the road and at local convenience stores. In 1989, they moved to their present location, which is a former gas station on South Main Street. The Coffee Gallery has been open continuously since then.

In 1978, Village Administrator Melvin Randolph passed away which led to changes for Park Forest as Randolph had been influential in creating many of the features that make today's park forest what it is today; such as having two pools (one for children and one adult), tennis courts, playgrounds, and more! Today's park forest is home to many different types of animals including deer, hawks/crows, rabbits, snakes/butterflies/moths/ants/wasps etc., all without fear of being stung! There are also several hiking trails available which lead visitors through beautiful forests and valleys along the way. Although there are some areas where development has taken place (such as at one point there were apartments built next door to one of our parks) most aspects remain unchanged since 1978 when Village Administrator Melvin Randolph passed away leaving behind such an impact on Park Forest!

Park Forest was founded on December 10, 1872 by John and Anna Park as a small community on the banks of the Des Plaines River. On November 17, 1888, the city was named in honor of President James K. Polk. The City of Park Forest contains two parks - one located in downtown and one south of town near Interstate 80. The downtown park has a baseball diamond with an outfield that can accommodate up to 12,000 people and features a fountain and brick plaza surrounded by trees. South of town, the park features an overlook with views of Chicago skyscrapers and Lake Michigan The first store in Park Forest opened on October 14, 1872 in what is now the home of the city hall building. It was called "The Store" because it served as both business headquarters for Park Forrest until 1902 when it moved to its current location on State Street NW. In 1896 another store opened in what is now known as Cottage Grove Village; this store also served as police department headquarters until 1908 when it relocated to its current location across from State Street NW In 1898 local resident Julius Schieffer donated land along Lockport Road east of State Street NW for use as an experimental agricultural station known today as Schieffer's Farmstead Museum; this open-air farm museum remains open to visitors today . The first mayor of Park Forest was Wm Hildebrandt who served from 1892-1895 On December 10th 1872 John & Anna Park founded their own town within Cook County called “Park Forest” after visiting New York City where they were impressed by how well designed streets had been put into operation there . This new township contained just 10 residents but quickly became successful due to its excellent infrastructure including water rights which allowed for irrigation farming In 1893 John & Anna Parks sold their township shares back to citizens for $1 each After few years more growth ensued with incorporation into DuPage County on January 1st 1895 becoming part of “Cook County” renamed after Presidents Abraham Lincoln (1861- 1865) Franklin D Roosevelt (1933-)
The Park Forest community was founded in 1871 when the Illinois Central Railroad built a track between Decatur and Chicago. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who had been president of the United States at the time the railroad was built. The first settler in Park Forest was Levi Coffin, who arrived with his family in 1871. By 1872, there were 10 families living in Park Forest. In 1874, some of the early settlers decided to move out of Park Forest and form a new town called West Side located east of present-day Cook County line on what is now Fox Valley Road. In 1886, West Side merged with Park Forest to become one municipality. The population of Park Forest grew gradually until World War II when it exploded due to soldiers coming home from fighting abroad and need for housing and goods available in nearby towns and cities. Many businesses closed after the war and people moved away from Park Forest looking for opportunities elsewhere.
