In 1916, the Park family sold the business to Julius Rosenwald, who renamed it Rosenwald Coffee Company. The company remained under Rosenwald ownership until 1949, when it was purchased by J.P. Morgan & Co., which merged with Astor-Rosenwald in 1951 to form Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1957, Chase Manhattan Banks merged with National City Corporation to form American Express Corporation. American Express continued to operate as a separate company until 1995, when it merged with Texaco Incorporated to become ExxonMobil Corporation.
Park Forest, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from a clearing in the forest that served as a public burying ground and schoolhouse. Park Forest is located along I-65 near Bloomington. The first settler in Park Forest was Levi Perkins who arrived in 1839. In 1846, Samuel Morse and his family settled in Park Forest after traveling through Indiana on their way to Chicago. Samuel Morse was an early backer of the American Civil War and donated land to build a hospital for soldiers at Park Forest. After the war ended, he donated more land to the town and helped finance its schools and other infrastructure. In 1860, John Waddell founded what would become Hennepin County's first railway station at Greenbush Avenue and Northfield Road near present-day Rushville. Waddell became known for his cotton farming operations which were centered around Park Forest until he sold them to Jno Loring Cooke in 1865. Cooke developed much of Cook County's north side before selling it all to Andrew Carnegie in 1896. In 1924, Harry Sibley established Sibley Paper Company at what is now Hennepin Mills northeast of downtown Minneapolis with help from his father-in-law Julius Rosenwald Jr.. The first modern coffee roasters were founded in the early 1800s by Nicholas-Jacques Conte, who opened his first café in Paris in 1828. The French earthquake of 1849 caused a great deal of damage to business stores, so Conte started buying back old beans from dealers and redistributing them himself. This helped him become one of the world's leading coffee roasters. In 1896, Luigi Castiglione began producing espresso machines at his bakery on via della Scala in Milan, which became one of the leading espresso houses in Europe. By 1915, Castiglione had begun manufacturing coffee capsules as well; these soon became very popular due to their easy storage and easy to drink quality. In 1938, Dutch caffeine pioneer Gerard Koffie founded Gouda Coffee Roastery with his wife Johanna van der Walt (known then as Janica). At that time Koffie was already well known for his fine art cupro coffees made from high-quality Arabica beans. His roastings quickly won him a following among European caffeine aficionados and he introduced specialty blends such as Java Specialty Blend (formed from two different Indonesian Robusta beans) into production around this time. Koffie's death in 1969 left Gouda Coffee Roastery with a reputation for excellent quality over quantity – until it closed its doors again in 2003 after 30 years of continuous operation! Park Forest, Illinois is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. Park Forest is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Park Forest was first settled by Germans in 1837. It was named for Samuel Miska and his family who were granted land in the area in 1839. In 1847, following the American Civil War, General Grant ordered all German nationals living within five miles of Boston to leave the city or face military occupation. This order affected Park Forest as well as other areas north of Chicago. The community grew rapidly during Reconstruction and by 1870 had a population of over 10,000 people. However, due to poverty and overcrowding many residents left town during the late 19th century for new opportunities in North America or Europe. In 1901, Park Forest became one of four townships that made up Will County when it was created from parts of DuPage and Kane counties. Because it lay within Will County's eastern border (northwest of Chicago), its boundaries changed few times over the next several decades until they crossed into Cook County on July 1st, 1955 when annexation occurred by Park Forest itself – making it one of only a handful suburban communities located inside Cook County proper (the others being Glenview Heights and Willowbrook). The post office at 621 West 152nd Street closed on October 15th 1978 after serving since March 20th 1880; this date is celebrated annually as "October 15th" to mark this anniversary currently recognized by most U.S ZIP Codes as an official holidays designation].
