This created forestland east of Interstate 90 totaling nearly 154 square miles (417 square kilometers). In 1932-1933 Congress enacted Public Works Administration Act No.. 9 which authorized construction of expressways through Cook County including State Routes 381 (now US-31) and 479 (now IL-111).
