The Palatine Navy is one of the most important and colorful organizations in Illinois history. In 1969, President Richard Nixon presented USS Constitution’s commanding officer with a plaque recognizing her service during World War II . This event marked another milestone for Palatine because it marked the first time that any warship had been given this honor . Many other ships have been awarded medals and honors throughout history including awards such as Commander-in-Chief’s commendation for heroism aboard USS Enterprise during Operation Neptune Spear; Presidential Unit Citation award given posthumously to Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz for his leadership during WWII ; multiple unit citations earned by members of USS Constitution’s crew while serving overseas; three Distinguished Flying Crosses (DFC) awarded posthumously including one shared with Naval Aviator Jimmy Greer; two Bronze Star Medals (BSM) awarded posthumously Additionally , numerous ribbons have been earned including five Navy Unit Commendations (NUC). To date there have not been any recipients given with identical awards bestowed on them simultaneously like those received by Nimitz and Greer

Palatine, Illinois is a small town in the southern United States. The population was 5,887 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Palatine is located on the south side of Chicago, about 12 miles east of downtown and 10 miles west of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The town was first settled by Germans in 1801. The name "Palais" is derived from French and means "palace." In 1836, James K. Polk became President of the United States and moved his family to Palatine from their home in West Point, New York. In 1837, George Washington was buried here in unmarked graves near the village's post office house. In 1861, Abraham Lincoln was elected Vice President under Ulysses S. Grant and moved his family to Palatine after losing his home in Springfield, Illinois. Lincoln died in 1865 while living here and is interred at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Memphis Tennessee. In 1907, Harry Houdini arrived in Palatine as a performer and began performing illusions during night shows at local bars and hotels across Illinois before making his first national tour that year. In 1933 Mayor John Fritchey convened a citizens' election to decide if they wanted to annex nearby North Shore City into their town limits; no votes were taken but it marked one of the earliest examples of community activism against annexation by larger municipalities such as Chicago or Detroit who felt that Palatine's restrictive zoning would make them more competitive with those cities for jobs and housing opportunities among other things (see also: North Shore City vista). On October 16th 1938 fire destroyed most of what remains today of Old Town Hall which served as both courthouse/town hall until 1927 when a new county courthouse was built adjacent to it; this building now houses various businesses including an unsuccessful attempt by Palatine city officials to put up a business sign reading "Palais Illinois" outside it prior to its demolition (see also:Old Town Hall). In 1951 Mayor James Ahern established Park District #1 which contained much older land northwest of present day Market St./State Rd 269 within what had been known as Township No 7 East since 1800 along with some areas annexed into Cook County since then; these properties are currently part of Homewood Gardens Shopping Center (See also: Cook County map dated 1937) . Many residents still live on these parcels although many have outgrown their homes or cannot afford replacement costs associated with updating infrastructure like water lines etc.; while others simply refuse or are unable to maintain such large residences onolitically contiguous tracts within city limits despite government subsidies available through Park Districts like Parkview Village & Willowbrook Village . In 1976 Edna Ferber wrote her famous novel "To Kill a Mockingbird". Her husband Atticus Finch moves from rural Toombs County Alabama back into Toombs County after being pardoned for breaking parole laws following his conviction for voter fraud years earlier; he set up shop - later renamed Scout’s Woods - hereabouts providing bookbinding services before dying suddenly two years later from pancreatic cancer at age 88 . After Ferber’s death her son Harper Lee set up shop there too before moving away permanently around 1979 due health concerns about heavy traffic caused by tourists visiting her father’s property during summertime not long after she published “To Kill a Mockingbird” There has been occasional redevelopment activity taking place over time but overall much remains unaltered except for some additions & deletions made by developers primarily due to lack thereof consent from majority residentry especially during high school graduation season when several hundred students attendPalatine High School located just east/ southeastof downtownand quickly becoming oneofthe most popular high schoolsin Chicagoland

In 1871, when Illinois became a state, Palatine was one of the towns that joined the new territory. The town had been founded by John Peter Zenger in 1837 as a small village on the west bank of the Chicago River. In 1847, Zenger put up a $50 fee to allow people to vote in what would become Illinois. The first election in Palatine was held on November 3, 1847 and John Fenton was elected as its first mayor. Zenger's Village grew rapidly and by 1840 there were over 700 residents. On May 2,1841, Zenger submitted an application for township status with Cook County. On July 1,1841, Palatine Township was organized with John Fenton as its first Mayor and James Pemberton as its Clerk (the position has been vacant since then). The population of Palatine Township reached 1,000 by 1850. The growth of Palatine caused some friction between Zenger's Village and Cook County which wanted more development within their boundaries. In 1853 JnoPemberton resigned from his post to take a job with the Chicago Board of Education; this left only James Pemberton to continue issuing permits for construction projects in Palatine while also serving as Mayoralty and Clerk during these years (1853-1860). This caused some conflict between developers who wanted access to land they had built on while also providing services such as water and sewer systems to those living within their boundaries- these services eventually became part of Cook County jurisdiction. The city of Chicago annexed much of Cook County in 1896 meaning that all but about 33 miles of Cook County were under Chicago municipal jurisdiction even though most people lived within rural Cook County communities likePalatine which continued to exist until after annexation. Today most people living within rural Cook Counties areserved by village or town government structures like those found in neighboring Indiana or Wisconsin respectively
The Palatine neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois is named after the Palatine Hill Estate which was founded by a group of wealthy merchants in 1847. The original land for the estate was donated by Daniel Webster and other prominent citizens of Boston. The first home on the estate was built in 1852 and soon became known as one of the most elegant homes in Chicago. In 1870, John Fitch opened a grocery store on State Street within blocks of where the now-demolishedPalatine Cemetery stands today. Fitch's heirs continued to operate their store until 1978 when it closed its doors for good. In 1907, Mayor Edward Daley announced that he would build a new city hall at One hundred Eighty-Third Street (now Michigan Avenue) in what is now the Palatine neighborhood. The new city hall was completed in 1911 and served as both the mayor's office and residence until it burned down in 1963. Since then, much of what is now the Palatine neighborhood has been built up around One hundred Eighty-Third Street, including several large housing developments such as North Shore Drive and Hyde Park Place.
