Military gift history in Palatine, Illinois began with the arrival of Americans on the Great Lakes region in 1812. The Palatine Native Americans had a long and rich history of warfare and protection against European invaders. American settlers brought guns and other weaponry to the area, which led to an increased level of violence between natives and settlers. In 1818, U.S. General William Clark traveled through Illinois and discovered the NativeAmerican village of Kankakee Rapids. After exploring the area, he proposed establishing a military post at this site to protect citizens from Indian attacks. The Palatine Township Board approved Clark's plan in 1819, and construction began on Fort Dearborn in 1821. The first soldiers stationed at Fort Dearborn were members of the 3rd Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry under Colonel Abraham Lincoln. This regiment was redesignated as the 1st Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry in 1825 after it became part of The Union Army during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). During that war, 1st IL I served under LtCol John Jellico until his death at El Paso on July 8, 1847; he is buried there alongside his unit’s colonel (and future president) George McClellan In 1861, America became embroiled inthe American Civil War (1861-65). At Fort Dearborn, troops from both sides skirmished sporadically until April 1862 when Confederate forces attacked using artillery they had taken from Union forces stationed nearby at Cahokia Heights]. For three days nonstop gunfire rang out from Fort Dearborn as Confederate cannonball after cannonball pounded into piles of earth near what is now Washington Street]], leaving behind trenches 2 feet deep wheretoday’s Chicago Avenue stands]; [On April 4], Major General Earl Beauregard ordered all artillery batteries eastward along Pulaski Road towards Springfield so that they could bombard Simpson’s Depot ]; On May 6th Grant issued orders for all arms to be withdrawnfrom fortifications except for small arms];[On May 7th General Halleck called off hostilities due to bad weather] Aftermath: Over one hundred thousand casualties including over thirty officers killed or wounded; $2 million damage done to infrastructure Dueling armies retreating north fought their way back up Missouri River through Illinois; by August 1865 only about 5% remaining of original army remained alive Fort Dearborn continued operation until its surrender on September 16th 1865.]] In 1898 Congress designatedFort Dearborn National Historic Landmark.]] Today it remains a museum opento visitors.]]

Palatine, Illinois is a small town located in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 9,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Palatine was founded as a farmstead by German immigrants in 1833 and became a village in 1845. In 1890, it became an incorporated town. The village was merged with the town on February 14, 1997. The Palatine Historic District encompasses 176 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites from the early 19th century to the present day. They include a Presbyterian church built in 1848, aMethodist chapel built in 1893, and two local schools (one opened in 1850 and one opened in 1912). Other notable buildings include an engine house used by the Village Board from 1915 to 1922 and also home to some of the first electric lights in Cook County. The Palatine Electric Avenue Bridge over I-95 connects Palatine with Aurora Heights on the north side of Chicago; this bridge replaced an earlier incarnation that spanned Big Muddy Creek between Aurora Heights and Holland Park on behalf of Chicago Electric Railway Company (commonly known as "CER"). CER operatedChicago's first electric streetcar line from its viaduct over Big Muddy Creek adjacent to Holmes Road east of North White Street until 1928 when it converted to diesel buses which ran across Bowen Road instead; this viaduct has been preserved as part of Northeastern Illinois University's Cumberland Campus district boundary marker program.

The Swiss army successfully tested these guns against NATO forces during World War II using them both as infantry support weapons as well as sniper platforms such as those used by Red Squadrons in Nazi Germany’s secret police units known as “Abwehr”). The Palatine, Illinois town was founded in 1809 by John Randolph and his brother-in-law, James K. Polk. The original village of Palatine consisted of a few homes and a gristmill. In the 1830s, the area became known for its corn crops and cattle ranching; the first school was built in 1835. By 1840, much of what is now Palatine had been developed as a small farming community with several stores, two churches, and a post office. When the railroad arrived in 1854, the town quickly grew into one of the largest settlements on the newly created Chicago & Northwestern Railway line. By 1860, there were more than 100 residents living in Palatine; it had become an important commercial center with many businesses dating back to its early days as a small agricultural community. The town experienced some growth during World War II when munitions production began nearby at Wernher von Braun's plant at Rock Island Arsenal; however, most of Palatine's growth came after World War II as a result of increased employment opportunities within the expanding suburban communities that surround it today.

Howitzer batteries were built on top of the forest in World War I to shoot shells into German positions near Chicago. After World War II the battery was dismantled and its parts used to build a new howitzer battery at Fort Sheridan in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In 1912 Abraham Lincoln was born on a farm near Palatine. He became an attorney at age 25 before serving as Secretary of State from March 4th through October 15th under President Taft. On November 3rd he was elected president with 50% of the popular vote over incumbent Woodrow Wilson...On December 14th he resigned because he disliked his job as president...He died nine days later at 40 years old after a long illness that had been caused by a kidney operation
