Palatine, Illinois was originally named "Palladium" after the city's first mayor, John Palladino. The original town site was on the banks of the Chicago River. In 1870, Palatine merged with neighboring Village of Geneva to form the Town of Palatine-Geneva. On July 1, 1898, West Side Chicago incorporated as a separate municipality and renamed itself Palatine-West Side. On October 15, 1899, all villages within Cook County were consolidated into one municipality under the name of Cook County (later known as Illinois).
