The Palatine Coast Guard Station was established on February 14, 1889, by the Illinois legislature. The station was part of the newly created Chicago Port District. The first duty of the station was to protect the vessels docking at the then-new Chicago Harbor. In 1907, a new armory and barracks were built on State Street in downtown Palatine. In 1912, a weather station and fog bell were added to the station. In 1923, an addition to the armory became known as "The Tower". It housed a searchlight and two machine guns for use during night operations. In 1925, a bath house and laundry were built on Menard Avenue in southeast Palatine. In 1951, an engine house and crane were added to the armory. In 1957, a helicopter capability was added to the coast guard station with acquisition of two Sikorsky helicopters (FH-1C & FH-3A). In 1992, another Sikorsky helicopter (CH-46D) replaced one of the helicopters from 1987.

The Palatine Coast Guard was founded in 1887. The first coast guard station was opened at the mouth of the Chicago River. It was located on the city's east side. In 1915, a new station was constructed on the west side of Chicago. This station served as the primary coast guard facility for Illinois and Indiana. In 1961, a new depot was built at Waukegan, Illinois to serve as the secondary center for coast guard operations in those states. The Palatine Coast Guard has jurisdiction over all of Cook County and portions of Kane County and La Crosse County in Wisconsin; portions of Michigan; and parts of Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia
Palatine is a small town located in Cook County, Illinois. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 24,651 at the 2000 census. In 1836, Palatine was organized as a township and became a village in 1868. On January 1, 1907, Palatine was incorporated as an unincorporated community within Cook County. The name derives from the Palatinate family of German immigrants who settled in the area in the late 1800s. Today, most of Palatine's residents are descendants of those original settlers or their children and grandchildren. The town has been home to many famous people including President Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln; actress Sarah Bernhardt; composer Leonard Bernstein; basketball player Julius Erving; and golfer Phil Mickelson.

This may be due to budget cuts or concerns about safety issues related to coastal development and tourism. Some have argued that this trend is harmful because it deprives local communities of resources needed to keep their citizens safe and support their economy.

Palatine, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,471 at the 2010 census. It is the 9th most populous municipality in the state of Illinois and it borders Chicago to the south and west, Belmont Park to the east and northwest, and Hoffman Estates to the north. The village of Palatine was founded on April 20, 1837 by Nicholas Hennepin. The first post office was established in Palatine on October 15, 1837. The first store was opened in Palatine by John King on December 12, 1837. On November 30, 1840 a schoolhouse for girls was built in what is now known as Township Road 6 North. In 1847–48 an act of the General Assembly changed the name of Palatine from Hennepin Village to Joliet Township (later Cook County), after Abraham Lincoln's election as President of America. In 1865 construction began on what would become Soldier Field which served as home field for both American football teams during World War I and also hosted other events including circuses and fairs during that time period. After World War II Soldier Field underwent several renovations including being made into an all-weather stadium with artificial turf before finally becoming a public park in 1968 with seating for 72,000 people. Today much of Palatine's original downtown core remains standing including establishments such as The Olde English Tavern which has been open since 1783; The Post Office which opened on November 30th 1840; J&C Wirth’s Pizza which has been open since 1907; The Daily News Building which housed newspapers from 1865 until 1975; Continental Insurance Company building constructed between 1922 and 1924; Asphalt Streetcars Depot / current location of PNC Bank / former location of Sears Roebuck & Co.;and more...
The original community of Palatine was founded in 1814 by German immigrants. The town gradually grew and gained a reputation for its fine wines and livestock. In the 1860s, Palatine became an important rail junction, and was home to one of the first churches in Illinois. In the late 1800s, Palatine became a manufacturing center for farm products and lumber.
