The Ottawa Air Force Base is home to the Ontario Regional Air Traffic Control Centre, which provides airspace management for the Ottawa-Gatineau area. The base also houses a large number of military aircraft and other equipment used by the RAF, USAAF, USAF Reserve and Canadian Forces. The history of airforce gift donation in Ottawa goes back to 1947 when the country's first civilian airport was opened at nearby Rideau Hall. In 1951, responsibility for air traffic control in the region passed fromcivilian to military control with the opening of Canadian Forces Station Kingston. By 1961, all major airports had been closed down and replaced by military facilities. In 1970, CFB Trenton became home to the Canada Aviation Museum and it would be here that many iconic items from Canadair Flight 759 (C-ZHJ) would be donated including its cockpit voice recorder and flight manual. In 1978, CFB Borden became home to the Royal Canadian Air Force Museum (RCAFM). It would be here that many iconic items from Canadair C-5 Galaxy II planes such as their training manuals and instrument panels would be donated along with aircraft parts such as wings and engines. This was followed by another donation in 1984 when CFB Rouyn-Noranda became home to the ICAO Aeronautical Museum (ICAOAM). Here they received items such as an intact Canadair A319 Skytrain airliner belonging to Air Canada LifeFlight #821 which had been crashed into a river near Rouyn-Noranda on December 19th 1972 while on a test flight. As part of their effort to preserve aviation heritage across all branches of our Armed Forces, ICAO Museums have undertaken numerous donations over time including an original Lockheed P-3 Orion reconnaissance plane gifted in 2007; an F/A18 Hornet fighter jet formerly belonging to No 1 Squadron RCAF; a Halifax bomber originally belonging to No 4 Wing RCAF; a Cessna 172 passenger plane which had once belonged to Eastern Airlines; a Beechcraft 1900D agricultural airplane; Paulet Island Airport Authority's only ever helicopter – King George V Helicopter! Today there are three active museums located within CFB Borden - The Royal Canadian Air Force Museum (RCAFM), The International Civil Aviation Organization Aeronautical Museum(ICAOAM), and The Canada Aviation Museum(CANAMI). Additionally, several other organizations affiliated with or supported byCFB Borden maintain either museum collections or participate in research projects related thereto. These include Defence Research Services' Aerial Photography Branch(); Transport Command's Historical Aircraft Directorate(); Naval Warfare Development Group's Naval History Collection(); Queen's Park District's Department of Cultural Affairs & Tourism';and finally -the Rare Aircraft Preservation Association Incorporated.(RAPAI).

Since 1998 when DoD decided not to continue gifting Boeing Aircrafts until agreements were made with other countries such as China/Taiwan etc., there has been a lack of information on USAF gift history since then; however some sources mention that between 1998-2000 DOD gifted 3 Airbus A320 jets each year to low altitude flying clubs worldwide which helped improve aviation safety for both pilots and passengers (TSA). It is unknown if these flights took place outside of regular travel channels like commercial airlines or if they were simply given out as part of special events or promotions related to those aircraft models (e.g., free repairs or tokens for purchase of tickets). Some sources also mention that between 2000 & 2002 DOD gifted 4 Lockheed Martin C130J Hercules Airliners to various organizations across America in order “to inspire people about American ingenuity” although it is unknown if these flights ever took place outside of regular travel channels like commercial airlines or if they were simply given out as part of special events or promotions related to those aircraft models (e.g., free repairs or tokens for purchase of tickets). However even though no specific air force gift history can be found anywhere online it seems safe to say that airforce Gift History definitely exists!
