The Navy has been a part of the community in Oswego for over 140 years. The first navy ship to be built in this town was the USS Congress, which was launched on November 9, 1892. The USS Constitution was also built here and served as the flagship of the Oswego Naval Militia from 1896 to 1901. From 1909 to 1917, the navy stationed their submarine fleet at this location in order to protect local merchant vessels from German submarines. In 1941, during World War II, Oswego became one of two towns in Illinois that pledged allegiance to America’s political leaders when they announced their support for the United States Government. This decision likely saved many lives as German submarines were active off of Illinois ports at that time. In 1944, members of the Oswego Naval Militia helped liberate France from Nazi occupation by helping transport supplies and reinforcements to French forces fighting against Axis forces. After World War II, naval activity decreased in Oswego until it returned briefly during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. However, it has generally quieted down since then with only a few exceptions such as occasional naval exercises or training missions conducted by American warships off of Lake Michiganoccasionally happening throughout history (e.g., during NATO maneuvers). Currently there is no active military presence within town limits; however, there are several small-scale military deployments nearby including an annual summer camp for children operated by Army Reserve soldiers located about 10 miles east of town on Highway 41 near Galesburg; and an annual event called FreedomFest which typically features free concerts and vendors along Main Street outside the Oswego City Hall building where demonstrations occurred sporadically throughout history prior to 2001 when government property rights were transferred back into private hands.)

The USS Oswego (AG-4) was a World War II ship that served in the United States Navy. She was built at the Bethlehem Steel Shipbuilding Corporation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was launched on 10 June 1944. The ship served as a training vessel before she was converted to an amphibious assault ship in 1945. In 1948, she became the first American warship to be stationed in Greece. The ship remained there until she decommissioned on 25 May 1951.
Oswego is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,814 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Oswego community was founded in 1825 by Captain George Herron and his wife Esther Larkin. They named their new community for their native country Oswego Township in New York State. There were only 9 families living in the township when it was organized on February 14, 1825; but within 5 years, over 100 families had moved to Oswego. The first store opened in 1827 and by 1830 there were three hotels and a school. In 1833, John Pritzker bought land south of present-day Danbury Road and built what became known as Pritzker Plaza which still stands today. In 1865, Mayor John Hynes began construction on the Park South Side landfill that would eventually become Millennium Park; this project created many jobs for local residents including Oswegoians working on the landfill site. The closing of the Chicago World's Fair caused a significant loss of business to Oswego stores which closed between 1970-1975 according to one report however most businesses have reopened since then with some adding additional space inside or outside their current locations due to changing needs within society and economy overall throughout much of Illinois thanks largely to Otis Redding's "I Can't Quit" song from 1969 which helped spur development all across America during that time period along with Ronald Reagan's "It Ain't No use Crying Out" speech given in 1984 further fueling economic growth for many smaller towns & villages across America during that time period also citing Oswego specifically as an example On October 20th 1990 at 6:00pm EDT/10:00pm CDT when Neil Armstrong became first man on moon after becoming an Eagle Scout while serving as Cmdr., his father Joseph Armstrong (died 1976) attended Neil's ceremonial swearing-in at Moon landing Site at Rushmore National Monument located east side of town nears Interstate 45 exit 52
