Orland Park, Illinois (I-90), often called the "City of Chicago" is a city in the state of Illinois. The population was 12,708 at the 2010 census. Orland Park is located on the south side of Chicago and forms part of the City of Chicago metropolitan area. It has a rich history dating back to 1847 when it was founded as a small village by Methodists from Wellesley Township, Massachusetts. Orland Park became an incorporated town in 1871. The name "Orland Park" comes from two sources: one being a location on or near Orand Avenue in Wellesley Township, where Methodist missionaries had settled in 1799; and another coming from George Washington's plantation on Orleansiara Creek which lay east of present-day Orland Park and west of what is now West Side Highway (present-day Kedzie Boulevard). In 1906, Orland Park annexed parts of neighboring Will County while still maintaining its own government. In 1964, it became one of 50 communities that were consolidated into the City of Chicago by Mayor Richard M. Daley. At that time it had a population size greater than 20,000 people but today its population reaches over 30,000 people due to growth within and outside the city limits as well as annexation by other municipalities such as Oak Lawn and Hinsdale Heights since 2011. The land for which Orland Park was developed originally came from two locations: one being a tract along State Road 35 between Cicero Avenue and Aurora Avenue in Aurora Township; and another being about two miles north along State Road 174 between Hollandale Drive and Route 54/55 near Prairie View A&M University. Both tracts were owned by John Richardson who donated them to the township in 1847 after moving there from Rockford Township where he had been born in 1796. The first settler at this site was James Caldwell who erected a cabin around 1800 with assistance from his brother Samuel Caldwells family member Ebenezer Goodspeed who also helped build roads and provide other services to residents including sawing logs for building plots etc., until his death circa 1806 due to yellow fever contracted during his trip downriver to join John Richardson’s expedition against General Wayne duringthe American Revolution ! However before any permanent structures could be erected public school instruction began on December 3rd year following teacher Mrs Jno McNealer’s arrival after three weeks notice given through Friend Mr Charles Haggerty ! By 1830 more than twenty children attend school each day with female teachers sharing space with male students inside barnstorming out 2 miles each way delivering instruction across busy streets like Harrison Street (today Pulaski Road) . Classes terminated early because parents would bring their children home for dinner then read stories aloud before bedtime ! Today we enjoy free morning classes starting at 7am every weekday starting January 1st !!!!! We are very blessed here !!!!! But you can learn just about anything you want here if you put your mind to it !!!!! After attending Friends Chapel Schoolhouse next door for Kindergarten thru 8th grade our youngsters got married off with high style & dignity which I must say I found quite interesting & enjoyed seeing my little girls wearing dresses rather then pajamas when they got married after all these years sweet excellence !!!!!! Next door Mrs Jane Harris taught us how to make lace while her daughter Anna did some needlepoint too 😜 All these years later she told me that “Miss Jane never stopped teaching me something new even though I lived elsewhere most all those years” so Ladies don’t let your daughters get lost behind today’s trends😉👍🏼☺️

Orland Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 97,827 at the 2010 census. Orland Park is the second most populous city in Cook County after Chicago. It is also the most populous city in suburban Cook County. The first settlers of what would become Orland Park were farmers who arrived from Wisconsin in 1836 and began to erect log cabins on a site that would later be known as Harvey House. By 1841, the Miami people had moved into the area and erected their own cabin on a bluff overlooking present-day Orland Park Estates. A post office was established at this location on July 8, 1841, and operated until it was discontinued on January 1, 1865. On March 3, 1847, Commissioners John Hargrave and Levi Morton laid out sections of land for town government within current-day Orland Park Township on which they built Harvey House as their first courthouse and jail. The first elections for township officials were held on April 3 following incorporation; all but one of the seven trustees were women. On November 6 of that year residents voted to name their new town after George Washington (the then Vice President). In 1870 voters approved an ordinance providing that "a public market should be established near by" in order to supply local merchants with fresh produce necessary for cooking purposes; however no market ever materialized because of competition from larger cities nearby. In 1872 a group of entrepreneurs founded The Chicago Tribune Company with the goal of bringing nightly news coverage from various points throughout Chicago to businesses located in or around downtown Chicago; however this venture failed due to financial limitations set by Tribune founder Joseph Pulitzer Sr..
