Orland Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 116,468 at the 2010 census. Orland Park is the most populous city in Chicago metropolitan area and second most populous city in Illinois after Chicago. The name "Orland Park" may be derived from the O'Hare Airport, which lies about 10 miles (16 km) to the south of town. The site of present-day Orland Park was first inhabited by Native Americans; Mound Builders lived there for centuries before European settlers arrived. In 1836, General James K. Polk ordered Major John Richardson to establish a military post on the east side of what is now Orland Park after discovering land grants in that area had been ignored by previous Ulysses S. Grant's Administration as part of his Indian Policy Treaty negotiations with Native American leaders. Richardson established Fort Dearborn on November 15, 1836 near modern day Winnetka Heights Boulevard and Western Avenue, about two miles (3 km) northeast of today's downtown Orland Park. On February 24, 1840, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order creating Forest Preserve No.–2244 within Forest Preserve No.–7 along the north shore of Lake Michigan outside of Chicago – this forest preserve became known as Forest Preserve No.–Orlando due to its proximity to Orlando Airport and other nearby airports at that time. On May 1st 1909 Coal Mine Explosion occurred killing more than 260 men when a coal mine explosion destroyed a small anthracite coal mine located just west of present-day Orchard Lakes Drive on Hennepin Avenue in Evanston Township; it remains one of Illinois' deadliest industrial disasters ever despite no living victims being found more than 20 years later…the mine disaster also left over 100% loss or destruction both inside and outside the coal structure including all underground water storage tanks used for cokingcoal burning! In 1912 construction began on Ford City Hall – later renamed Municipal Court House – which would become one of America's first municipal buildings while still under construction during what would be called "the Progressive Era". The building served as City Hall until 1974 when it was replaced by new Ford City Hall which still stands today across from Ford Motor Company headquarters at One Lincoln Center Drive just northwest of Loop 610 South during business hours only accessible via Loop 610 South or I-290 Wagenah Road offramps from I-290 eastbound within walking distance only accessible via Rt 594W from I–90 just eastbound concurrent with Route 59E access into Rt 594W via Olive Branch Rd offramp southeast terminate at Eisenhower Ave…a park named for Mayor Richard Jaffe contiguous with present day Rt 580W between Olive Branch Rd & Eisenhower Ave will be developed adjacent to Municipal Court House site starting 2020 across from Rt 594W & Eisenhower Ave
