Oak Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 51,853 at the 2010 census. It is the fifth-largest city in Illinois and the second-largest city in Chicago proper. Oak Park is one of two U.S. cities with a population over 100,000 that also has an international airport (the other being Paris). The name "Oak Park" comes from the oak tree that once grew near its present location on the south side of Lake Michigan just east of State Street and west of Roosevelt Road. The first settlement in what is now Oak Park was made up of about 60 people who erected homes around a small post office on the site of what would later become Elmhurst Elementary School. By 1836, there were 175 residents living in what is now Oak Park; many had come from areas such as Midwestern Indiana and Ohio because there were no trees or other natural resources to be found hereabouts. In 1837, John Quincy Adams was elected President and arrived in Chicago with his family; he ordered two teams of hogs to be killed and their meat fed to the inhabitants of Chicago so they would know how good food could be had without leaving home! One can imagine how excited these early settlers must have been when they learned that they could get their fresh eggs -- which still exist today at Elmhurst Elementary School -- directly from those animals! In 1850, due to increasing immigration by Irish Americans into Illinois, Oak Park's population passed 1,000 for the first time ever; it quickly increased again by 1860 when it reached 2,500 residents! However, during this time frame something incredible happened: The town became part of Cook County! This was quite a milestone for not only Oak Park but for all rural Cook County towns as well – it meant that businesses within town limits could finally start offering services such as water main construction or trash collection etc., which hitherto had been out of reach for most citizens! This change also helped spur economic development within town boundaries; originally agricultural products had been our mainstay economy but with better transportation options things started to change including the opening (in 1865) of what would eventually become Daley Plaza Shopping Center – one of Chicagos earliest commercial centers! During my research I couldn't help but notice how much debt seemed constantly plaguing some local businesses even though taxes paid by those businesses never went above 5%... yet somehow debts simply continued growing despite every effort to reduce/stop them? Why? Perhaps because business owners felt like they needed more money than government officials dared give them?! Anyway back to my original point: With 1 million+ residents living inside Cook County by 1870 (!), growth slowed down significantly until World War II caused another explosion (see below)... before gradually rebounding again during hippie years (1962-1970) until reaching current levels today thanks largely to professional migration (+1 million+) However we should not forget about World War II either – not only did approximately 50% OF THE CURRENT POPULATION OF ORCHARD PARK VOW TO REMEMBER AND CONDEMN THE WAR BUT ALSO NEARLY HALF OF THE CITY'S SIGNIFICANT INDUSTRY NOW OPERATES DIRECTLY FROM ITS LOCAL AREA SO THAT EVEN TODAY MUCH OF THE EARLIEST HISTORY OF ORCHARD PARK CAN BE FOUND THERE! THIS IS PARTICULARLY TRUE FOR SCHOOL BUSINESSES AS MANY CLASSROOMERS LAY THEIR BEDS AT HOME FOR NO MATTER WHAT When you add it all up you get an incredibly rich history & culture + sizeable recreational & cultural amenities RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN BACK yard!!! So if you're thinking about moving here – go ahead & do it – but make sure your kids are schooled too!)

The history of OakPark begins with John Todd who settled here in 1833 while still living in Pittston Township, Pennsylvania. He founded a small farm called Old Hickory Swamp which he soon developed into a large lumber business based out of this property. todd also built a log cabin on what is now State Street which served as his headquarters during his bald period (1835-1837). In 1836Todd married Sarah Coolidge and they moved to Elmhurst where they started another lumber business together before leaving Elmhurst for good around 1840 when their daughter Anna was born at home between Todd’s legs while he was working on an additional sawmill near present day Glendale Avenue and Milwaukee Street (now Wacker Drive). todd then built another sawmill about three miles east adjacent to current day Midway Boulevard/Old National Highway at what is today 100th street/Wacker Drive NEAsawmill operated until 1865 when it caught fire due to faulty wiring; all men inside died including founder John Todd who survived but lost everything - $400K+. Aftermath: Tree planting began immediately but many died from disease brought by mosquitoes in such harsh environment In 1849Todd's son Charles reopened Old Hickory Swamp Lumber mill after finding new sources for wood across newly acquired stateside land westward expansion had opened up following Perry Expedition (1812-1815) including partsook parte dinted ago by fellow Pennsylvanian James Kapp along Buffalo Creek watershed northwest corner old state line
