The United States Army deployed gift history in Oak Park, Illinois during World War I. The Chicago-based 4th Infantry Division was mobilized on August 29, 1914 and soon became involved in the war. On October 16, 1914, the division landed at Salonika in Greece and began its first offensive against Ottoman forces. The division's 1st Battalion, 25th Infantry Regiment also participated in this operation. On November 12, 1914, the division made an amphibious landing at Anzio beachhead and captured a series of positions including Overlord Ridge. The unit sustained heavy losses during this engagement but eventually managed to withdraw with honour. In December 1914, the division took part in Operation Vittorio Veneto which aimed to relieve Rome from the siege of that city by French forces under Marshal Philippe Pétain. Unfortunately for the Americans—and their allies—the French were unable to take control of Rome and withdrew instead retreating back across Italy to Nazi Germany where they committed genocide against Italian civilians. In 1915, after France had withdrawn from World War I following its defeat by Germany at Verdun and WWI had ended officially with armistice on November 11th, the 4th Infantry Division was redesignated as Brigade Combat Team (BCT) 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (BCT) 2nd Cavalry Brigade Combat Team (BCT) 3rd Cavalry Brigade Combat Team (BCT). With these changes came new deployments; however no significant change occurred within Unit composition or equipment within brigade combat teams... until late 1917 when both CABTs were combined into one brigade--Brigade Combat Team 116th Infantry Regiment--making it one of only two U.S. Army brigades ever composed entirely of cavalry troops Unit History: BG Raymond Fenton became brigade commander on September 1st 1918 effective date

Oak Park, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 52,812 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Cook County after Chicago. The community was founded on May 15, 1837 by John Temple and his brother Ebenezer Temple. Oak Park was named for oak trees that grew near their farmstead. The first white settler in Oak Park was James Auld who arrived in 1836 and built a cabin near what is now Elm Grove Avenue. Auld's son Alexander Auld opened a store on Dearborn Street in 1838 and later served as postmaster of the town. In 1840, Ebenezer Temple moved to Oak Park from Decatur and started an grocery store there with his sons Daniel and George Temple. They also operated a sawmill which produced lumber for construction projects around the city of Chicago. In 1843, John Harker purchased 3 acres of land east of Elm Grove Avenue from Ebenezer Temple for $200 dollars. Harker built himself a home on this property which he called "Harker's Harbor". He became one of the early settlers in what would become Oak Park and used it as his base of operations for business dealings with other farmers and entrepreneurs throughout the years. In 1850, he sold part ownership of his property to Abram Hewitt who continued to use it as a farmstead until he died in 1892. In 1852, John Fenton bought 2/3 acre northeast of where Harker's Harbor situates today from Abram Hewitt for $75 dollarsonement split between him and two others including Solomon Goldsborough (of Goldsborough Mills). Fenton established himself as one of the largest landowners within municipal limits when he donated 4 ½ acres (1 mile²) extending along Elm Grove Avenue south to White Road some time before 1860 when he sold it to Harmon Garton who renamed it Garton Farmstead following its purchase by him from Harmon Blackman shortly thereafter; Blackman had come overland from Rochester while working on building McCormick Place pornography factory at DeKalb & North Western Railroad tracks west of Joliet during1860-1862 boom period during American Civil War era near end stages just before Union victory over Confederate forces at Battle Of Gettysburg two weeks earlier than planned - making OakPark one OF THE FIRST MILITARY COMMUNITIES IN ILLINOIS TO BE TAGGED WITH THAT CHARACTERISTIC NUMBER - BLACKMAN PRESERVING HIS OWN HEADQUARTERS AND BUSINESSES ON ORIGINAL WILKINSON LOT IN OAK PARK FOR OVER HALF CENTURY AFTER BATTLE . THANKFUL FOR THAT INTERESTING CIVIL WAR TREE UPON MUSEUM ROAD NEAR SHOPPING DISTRICT TODAY! It should be noted that even though various families resided within our Town boundary up through about 1870 or so there WAS no central government like there IS today prior to Springfield annexing much larger chunk o' Cook County right smack dab IN THE middle OF OUR AREA BACK THEN! So much has changed since then Sawyer Businesses went bankrupt AFTER STATE CAPITAL TAX REVENUE REDUCTION AND WILLROOM BUSINESSES DID AS WELL - BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY... On April 10th 1865 Abraham Lincoln was assassinated outside Ford’s Theatre located near Madison Square Garden across West Side Road – resulting in wide ranging violence across America including martial law declared throughout MUCH OF AMERICA –Oak park residents were spared due to their location within pistol range distance ol bilious mobs en route New York City area where theaters were situated .
