The First Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry was organized at Oak Lawn on November 15, 1861. In 1865 it became the Seventh Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry and in 1875 it became the Eighth Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry. In 1898 it became the Ninth Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry and in 1907 it became the Tenth Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry. It disbanded in 1918.
Oak Lawn is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 53,301 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Chicago metropolitan area after Chicago and Chicago Heights. Oak Lawn is also one of the most diverse cities in Illinois, with a large African American population and a significant Hispanic and Asian American populations. The first reference to Oak Lawn is found in 1847 when Hennepin County was organized. In that year, John Fisk gave land to the town of Crystal Lake for $1 each from his assets. On November 3rd 1851, voters of Crystal Lake voted to change their name to Oak Lawn as part of an effort by residents to distance themselves from Fisk's donation. The new name reflected the fact that much of what had once been called Crystal Lake was now located within present-day Oak Lawn boundaries. In 1857, Jesse Lavin purchased 1/2 mile (3 km) east of downtown on land which he donated to be named "Lavin Park." This park would host baseball games and other activities until it was sold off in 1922 due to budget cuts by Mayor Joseph Sheehan Sr.. In 1907, Edwin Grosvenor donated 4 acres (16 ha) north of its current location on Euclid Avenue for use as a public park known as Grosvenor Park. At this time it served primarily as a dumping ground for snowmobiles used by tourists visiting Chicago during wintertime The first schools were built in this area around 1900: Maplewood School District #1 (now Deerfield Township), which served students from Forest Glen Avenue; Lincolnshire School District #2 (now Evanston Township), which served students from Archer Road; Dearborn Heights School District #3 (now Elmhurst Township), which served students from Douglas Road; and then Addison-March Field school district No., also now Deerfield Township but then serving students from Addison Road between Elmhurst Boulevard and South Prairie Road. During World War I there were 2 high schools: West Side High School (#5) opened on December 15th 1918 at 216 North Wabash Street near McCormick Place and closed on September 30th 1945 because enrollment had gone up too fast following mobilization; East Side High School (#6) opened on October 12th 1918 at 222 Wells Street near Dearborn Theater after West Side High had been closed due to World War I hostilities It should be noted that not all these schools were actually located within present-day Oak Lawn borders - some were located close enough that they overlapped but still received their own individual addresses. For example Lincolnshire Elementary school was located just south of Cicero Avenue between Archer Road and Douglas road - it retained its original address even though it currently resides within Dempster Park . On May 6th 1957 Mayor Sheehan announced plans for the construction of two new hospitals - La Salle Hospital(later moved to Fox Chase Medical Center)and Mount Sinai Hospital(later moved to Northwestern Memorial Hospital). These plans caused concern among many citizens who felt that this would put more people living close together than necessary given the concerns about traffic congestion already existing in the city center . Construction began on both hospitals less than two months later on July 14th 1957 with La Salle opening first followed by Mount Sinai less than a month later

Oak Lawn is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 41,824 at the 2010 census. It was one of the fastest-growing cities in Illinois during the early 21st century, and has since become a major economic center in the region. Oak Lawn is home to Northwestern University, which has its main campus there and also several smaller campuses around the city. The area that now includes Oak Lawn was originally part of what is now River Forest on the west side of Chicago. The first settler in what became Oak Lawn was John Cullum, who arrived from Watertown, Massachusetts on November 15, 1838. Cullum married Anna Biddle and they founded an iron works near what is now Northwest Side Drive and Van Wyck Street. In 1851, Abraham Lincoln's father-in-law moved from Indiana to Chicago and purchased property east of State Street where he erected a large frame house known as the White House Inn. He named it after his son-in-law's farmhouse in Kentucky where he had been born previous year. Lincoln attended public schools until about age 10; then he went to private school in South Shore Village until about 1853 when he began attending Harvard College where he graduated with honors in 1857 (a rarity for an undergraduate at that time). After graduating from college Lincoln worked as a lawyer before entering politics as a Democratic member of the Illinois General Assembly from Springfield between 1861–1865 and 1870–1873; then as state senator from Illinois between 1865–69 and 1870–71; then as speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1871–72 through 1875 before being elected governor of Illinois over Republican Samuel Janklowe on November 3rd, 1877. At age 43 Lincoln became America's youngestGovernor when he took office on January 3rd following Janklowe's resignation due to term limits set by Congress at that time after serving two terms totaling only about three years out of four years (the maximum amount allowable for any individual Governor under law at that time). Lincoln successfully ran for re-election against Republican challenger George Ryan on December 4th but faced strong opposition both within his own party - including members who resigned or were fired because they believed him too Radical - and outside forces such as business interests opposed to heavy government intrusion into their businesses while simultaneously arguing that Reconstruction policies designed specifically to help black Americans had not gone far enough inland towards racial equality despite persistent white resistance throughout much southern America (this opposition would later come together into one political force called "The Radicals"). Ultimately it proved difficult for Lincoln even though various polls showed him trailing by significant margins; Ryan easily won 50% of all votes cast with more than twice as many ballots counted than Lincoln got (although Woodrow Wilson eventually succeeded him as President). Despite this difficulty Lincolns popularity continued high well into his second term which ended March 4th 1890 just months shy of full eight years after leaving office - making him one half century younger than any Ulysses S Grant or Franklin D Roosevelt among American Presidents!
