The United States Air Force has been providing service to the citizens of Oak Lawn, Illinois since World War II. Since then, the AFB has grown and changed a great deal, becoming one of the most powerful in the country. Started as part of Continental Air Command during World War II, The ANG was first activated in 1961 as an aeronautical reserve force under Operation Thunderball. It was later placed under Ninth Air Force and became an operational branch within that command during Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. In 1999 The ANG was re-activated as a full-time unit with Headquarters at Elmhurst Airport outside Chicago. Today’s Air National Guard members serve out their three-year terms without pay and are dedicated to protecting our nation’s airspace and interests abroad while engaging in any number of activities including law enforcement, Search and Rescue (SAR), disaster relief, military exercises, civic events/parades, aircraft operations support missions (AOS) – including refueling combat jets on domestic flights or conducting joint flyovers with NATO partners – and more! They also have unique access to special forces training which allows them to respond quickly to threats anywhere in our hemisphere!

Oak Lawn is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 54,362. The village covers an area of 27 square miles (75 km2). It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was organized on December 1, 1848 by order of the General Assembly as a new township in Cooley Township. A second attempt to organize Oak Lawn failed on February 14, 1849 due to lack of support from trustees and residents. On July 15, 1850 the Village charter was granted with a population of 10 families pursuant to petition from John Haggerty and others. On October 12, 1853 a fire destroyed most of what remained of Quincy Market which had been home to over 100 businesses since its founding in 1847. With no other choice but to rebuild at full cost ($2700 per acre), Oak Lawn became one of Chicago's first "new town" incorporations and rapidly grew into one of its most successful communities during the late 19th century and early 20th century thanks in part to its well-maintained infrastructure including streetlights, water systems and schools - all built largely without private funding or subsidies. Today Oak Lawn is one of Chicago's most affluent villages with median household incomes ranging from $85,000 - $127,000 (2013) according to UBS analysts' estimates; it has also been ranked as one Of Chicagos Most Diverse Communities for Racial & Ethnic diversity by Forbes Magazine in 2014 and 2015; it is also home to many top employers such as Northwestern University’s Booth School Of Business/Wiley Global business school as well as several large medical companies like Monsanto Company and DuPont de Nemours & Co., Inc.;[1] all located within walking or biking distance across diverse neighborhoods that offerculinary opportunities along with nightlife options like The Rave nightclub located within walking distance from several restaurants popular among students;[2][3][4] enjoy excellent public transportation options like Pace Line bus rapid transit connecting downtown Chicago via Dan Ryan Expressway with stops near State Street Station (a few minutes away), Randolph Park Zoo (just outside city limits), Millennium Park (just east side suburbs) – both found within easy driving or bike riding distance –and plenty more cultural attractions including Wrigley Field baseball park,[5][6] etc.
