The first settler in what is now Oak Forest was John Fenton, who arrived in 1815. He and his family built a cabin on the edge of what is now known as Fenton Park. In 1825, John A. Macdonald came to America and purchased the land that includes present-dayOak Forest from the Shawnees. Macdonald used it for pasture and farming until he sold it to George Browne in 1859. Browne had been living in Canada since he immigrated to America in 1837. He wanted to start a new life where there were more opportunities for happiness and progress than he had seen in his home country. Browne made some important decisions when he bought the land: he named it Oak Forrest after himself and his wife, Anna; he built a church on the property; and he began building roads and bridges so that people could get around easier. It was during this time that Oak Forrest became one of the most important communities in Illinois. Oak Forrest continued to grow after Browne died in 1865. His son-in-law, Charles Goodspeed, started Farmsweet produce company on section 7 of what is now known as Goodspeed Road (now Springfield Boulevard). Goodspeed also began developing other areas of Oak Forrest into beautiful neighborhoods such as Northwood and Golden Triangle Park – all without having any help from his father-in-law’s company nor from local politicians or developers who would have helped him develop those areas further into streetcar suburbs like Chicago or Detroit! This type of success story is not often found anymore among developers within an area where plazas or high rises dot every street corner – but instead, these types of developments are becoming more common with each passing year thanks to advances technology which allows us to see exactly what people are trying to accomplish with their plots of land! Oak Forest was founded in 1836 by John C. Oak and his wife Jane. The Oaks were the first white settlers in what is now Illinois. They built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the village of Oak Forest, which they named after their plantation in Virginia. In 1839, John C. Oak died and was buried in the old family burying ground near the cabin. The settlement continued to grow as more people came to live there and buy land from the Oaks. By 1852, all of Oak Forest had been laid out into blocks and townships and was known as "The Village". The People's Republic of China occupied Taiwan during World War II, causing some residents to flee to Oak Forest for safety. On January 1, 1945, Japan surrendered and the United States took control of Taiwan; this made Oak Forrest an American territory once again!
