O'Fallon, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. O'Fallon is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River between St. Louis and Springfield. The name "O'Fallon" likely originated from a combination of Old French "ouallon" meaning "a ford", and Irish Gaelic "Fáilteach". The first settler in what would become O'Fallon was James Cavanaugh in 1827. At that time, it consisted of just a few homes and farms near present-day North Avenue and Main Street. In 1835, John Pemberton bought one hundred acres (40 hectares) northwest of present-day O'Fallon from James Cavanaugh for $10 per acre ($2,000 at current prices). His original home still stands today on East Main Street within walking distance of most citizens in O’Fallon today. In 1839–1840 General Scott ordered Colonel John Fenton to move his brigade headquarters southward across the river to Springfield so that more troops could be used during the Mexican War. After landing his troops at Alameda Island on May 8th off Godfrey Rankin's farmstead (now part of West Side), General Scott then moved them northward downriver to what is now Prairie du Chien before crossing back over into Mexico again on October 12th nearpresent day Kansas City suburb Guthrie Park where he finally reached Mexico City two days later without any loss or damage to his forces On November 20th 1840 Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as President of the United States after winning a close election against Andrew Johnson with only 50% of the popular vote; both men claimed victory due to fraudulent votes cast by their respective supporters This event marked an important turning point in American history as Lincoln became America's first successful war president During this time period much progress was made towards creating national commonwealths such as Massachusetts Bay Colony and Canada while other states like Missouri continued developing individual republics like New York Although not typical for nineteenth century America, slavery did continue legal operation until 1865 when it was abolished nationwide through Ulysses S Grant's Emancipation Proclamation

O'Fallon, Illinois is a small town located in the southern part of the state of Illinois. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. O'Fallon is one of three towns that make up Rock Island County and are all located within a few miles of each other. The first European to visit what is now O'Fallon was French explorer Pierre- Louis de La Salle on his way from Iahegana Lake in present day Michigan to St. Joseph in 1763. La Salle named the river Illini after the local Ojibwe people he encountered while exploring this area. The first settler in what is now O'Fallon was Captain John Smith who arrived there with his party on November 7, 1779. He built a cabin on an island in the river and named it "Smith's Island". In 1837, Michael Cavanagh started farming here and began selling flour and other products from his mill which he had built near by. In 1849, Elijah Chapman opened a store at 4th Street and Wabash Avenue which became one of the most popular stores in town until it closed its doors for good in 1951 due to competition from larger stores run by men like Jens Jensen and Harry Weinkauf. One of the most famous natives of O'Fallon was Forrest Gump who grew up here before moving on to Hollywood fame as well as authoring several books about life hereabouts including One Hundred Years Of Solitude (1913) and To All The Boys I've Loved Before (1994).
