O'Fallon, Illinois is a small town located in the southern portion of the state of Illinois. The population was 5,449 at the 2010 census. O'Fallon is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The territory that makes up O'Fallon was annexed by Chicago in 1837 and became part of the city's white郡 (borough). In 1871, an act of Congress created a new county named Cook County to coincide with Chicago's annexation and made O'Fallon an enclave within that county. In 1919, General Motors Corporation established a research plant in what is now downtown O'Fallon. GM has since discontinued its operations in downtown O'Fallon but continues to maintain some parts of what used to be their campus there.
