O'Fallon, Illinois is a town of about 20,000 people located on the east side of the state of Illinois. It is famous for its cornucopia of wineries and vineyards. O'Fallon was founded in 1824 by John P. O'Fallon and his family. The original name for the town was "Eddystown." O'Fallon is home to three universities- Northwestern University, DePaul University, and Carbondale College- as well as many businesses including Ford Motor Company, Monsanto, United States Steel Corporation, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Anheuser Busch Brewery, Shell Chemical Company (now BP), McCormick & Company (now Unilever) and Sears Roebuck & Co.

O'Fallon is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,349 at the 2010 census. O'Fallon is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. O'Fallon has been inhabited by humans since the Stone Age. It was platted as an unincorporated community on February 12, 1847 by John W. Beattie and his brother-in-law, Colonel David Rogers. The first post office opened in 1851 and was called "Beattie's Ferry." The town name was changed to "O'Fallon" on October 10, 1865 by ordinance of the Township Committee after Jacob O’Farrell donated land for a public square in what is now downtown O’Fallon. The first settler in what is now downtown O’Fallon was Isaac Higbee who bought 640 acres (248 ha) of land from George Atherton on November 25, 1837. Higbee built a log cabin known as Old Higbee's Cabin which still stands today at 9th Street and State Street near the intersection of Highways 6 and 20A. In 1840 Isaac HigBee married Sarah Ann Hardesty and they raised six children: three boys (Henry ClayHigbee; Amos H URIGBIE; William ClaytonHigbees), two girls (Hannah F URNEY & Anna J OHNSON), one boy (John Gilbert Higbee) – all born before1840 – and one girl (Martha Ballard). In 1843 Isaac Higbees son John Gilbert Higbee married MaryAnn Whitehead also from Illinois but they moved to Missouri where he operated a farm until his death in 1909 at age seventy-four years old leaving behind five children: four boys: John GilbertHigbieres II; Milton EdwinHigbee; Everett Hoagland; James LafayetteHigbieres Ii ; twins Harry H IGBEY Jr., Elsie Mae Hibbley ; one girl: Bertha M ARTHUR . All five sons were born between 1843 and 1865 when their father died except Harry H IGBEY Jr., who was only six months old when his father passed away.
