Military gift history in Northlake, Illinois began in 1892 when a group of soldiers from the Union army moved into the town. They brought with them some of the most famous and beautiful weapons from the Civil War including cannons, rifles, and swords. Over time, other members of the military joined these soldiers and soon there was a small garrison presence in Northlake. The town's first mayor was Colonel John P. Caldwell who served from 1893 to 1897. He was followed by Mayor George Hickey from 1897 to 1902. Then came Mayor Charles Wetherbee from 1902 to 1906 and finally Mayor John J. Flynn from 1907 to 1912. These mayors were responsible for establishing civic affairs, maintaining public order, and conducting business within their respective borders. During World War I Northlake saw its first combat action when two companies of United States Marines arrived on September 3rd 1915 after being dispatched by General Pershing through President Wilson’s call for troops overseas. The Marines fought alongside local units until November 1918 when they withdrew without achieving any significant results due to lack of ammunition and supplies at home back at home (the war had ended three months earlier). After the war closed American forces left Northlake but not before leaving behind a number of military gifts that have continued to be enjoyed by residents today such as guitars and shotguns dating back to 1919 or hand-carved wooden pieces dated back to 1924 (one is currently displayed at the old post office). Northlake, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 13,747 at the 2010 census. It is the seventh-largest city in Chicago. Northlake is bordered by the city of Chicago to the north and west, Lake Michigan to the east, and Will County to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Northlake were French traders who landing there on their way from France in 1601. In 1836, a group of men led by George Stephenson built a flour mill on which he operated until his death in 1858. The town was platted in 1851 by John Wirt and others under the name of "Northridge", but it was changed to its present name when it became part of Chicago's limits following an act of Congress on February 14, 1857. The city has experienced growth over time as it has become one of Chicagos most popular tourist destinations for both residents and visitors alike. One such factor has been its rich history with many buildings from various periods still standing today including several churches dating back to before 1860 and even earlier examples such as a Native American Village that once thrived near modern day Northwestern University (north side). Northlake, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern part of the state of Illinois. The population was 2,948 at the 2010 census. Northlake is one of six towns in Cook County and one of four towns in Kane County. Northlake is named for John Neely Bryan, an American politician who served as Mayor of Chicago from 1949 to 1951 and as United States Senator from Illinois from 1953 to 1957. The village was first settled by German immigrants in 1836. In 1853, two brothers, George and August Nordmeyer bought land near the present day intersection of US Highway 20 and State Road 12 for $1 per acre. By 1870, there were 9 settlers living on the site. The first post office was established in 1870 with Wm Hickey as its first clerk. In 1872, James Ewing opened a store on Main Street which later became known as Ewing's Pharmacy & Grocery Store. In 1876, Thomas White moved his family to Northlake from Rockford Township where they had been living since 1793. White owned a sawmill and gristmill along with several acres (7 ha) of corn land he fenced off and developed into what is now downtown Northlake Park east of US 20/State Road 12 south of Broadway Avenue.. He also built a frame house on South High Street that still stands today as a reminder of his early days here in town. In 1886, Julius Pohlman set up a grocery business at 607 S Maple Ave., just north of Main Street where it currently stands next to Stoneware Restaurant . It would be another decade before groceries were offered at any other location within town limits- until 1914 when A&P Tire Co opened its original building across East Market Place from what is now Nordmeyer's Hardware Store . This small but important milestone not only signaled the beginning of stores being available throughout town but also marked an era when meat was no longer transported long distances anymore; instead it arrived fresh locales like Northlake Village where it could be enjoyed by residents right inside their own homes! NorthLake did not become completely agricultural until after World War II when more modern methods such as irrigation systems made possible increased production due to increased demand for maize around the country during that time period . However some businesses that have thrived over decades such as Nordmeyer's Hardware continue to operate unchanged thanks largely to their customers’ loyalty!
In the 1830s, Northlake was a small village on the north side of Chicago. It consisted of just a few homes and a school. By 1840, Northlake had grown to over 100 people and it had a church, doctor, Post Office, and store. In 1854, Northlake became the first village in Cook County when it was merged with other villages to form the city of Chicago.
