Northlake is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Northlake is located on the edge of the city of Chicago and straddles the border between Cook and DuPage Counties. The town was first settled in 1847 by French Canadians who were seeking to escape religious oppression in Canada. The town name honors General Thomas J. Northrup, commander of American forces during World War II and head of military intelligence for United States Strategic Command. Northlake grew rapidly after incorporation as a village in 1914; it had a total population of 14 residents when it amalgamated with South London in 1927. From its peak growth until around 1990, when it began to decline due to suburbanization and other factors, Northlake averaged about 10 people per square mile (3 per km²). Since 2000, however, there has been an increase in both housing development and employment opportunities as a result of large-scale construction projects such as Bruce Road 2 (a toll road connecting I-95 south to downtown Chicago) and Ford Field (home to the Chicago Bears football team). These new developments have led to increased traffic congestion on Bruce Road which has affected retail businesses along that stretch of roadway most directly impacted by travel delays caused by commuters trying to get from one end of town to another without going through Northlake or South London. In addition, concerns have been raised about potential environmental damage from repeated conversions/restructuring across several blocks adjacent to Bruce Road into apartments/condos following what has been seen as an artificially high number of home sales relative to available housing stock throughout much of north central Illinois – results that have not yet borne fruit despite numerous requests from local resident groups concerned about proposed developments that would alter or impact water quality or scenic values within close proximity thereto

Northlake, Illinois is a small town in the northcentral part of the United States. The community was founded in 1871 by John North and his wife Sarah. Northlake is located on the east side of the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 2,499 at the 2010 census. It is part of the DuPage County seat of Elmhurst. The first settler in what would become Northlake was John North, who arrived in 1851 from Norwich, England. He and his wife, Sarah, started homesteading land near where they now live on Highway 60. By 1870, North had developed a grocery store and post office here that served as a center for trade between Cook County and adjacent states. In 1875, John's son Harry built a farmhouse on present day US-60 just east of town to serve as an example of pioneer architecture characterized by simple rooms with large open spaces around them. In 1906–07 when Chicago experienced its devastating fire which destroyed almost all downtown businesses including Northlake's grocer and other important commerce buildings, Methodist Episcopal Church pastor Grosse found temporary shelter inside one of Harry's barns until he could rebuild his church on Prairie Avenue (now First Street). Reverend Grosse helped start what would become known as Northlake Township government soon after their arrival and ever since it has been one aspect or responsibility of township governance has been through township meetings held monthly (unless otherwise noted) at Masonic Lodge #4107 south of town meeting hall across from Kmart across from Peoria Race Track
