On November 3, 2007, Starbucks announced that it would close its store in Northlake for undisclosed reasons. However, on November 4th it reopened as a cafe with new seating and decor.
Northlake is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in the Chicago metropolitan area and one of the most populous towns in Illinois. Northlake is located on Lake Michigan and between Chicago and St. Louis on I-94. The city's nickname is "The North Side". Founded by German immigrants in 1836 as Rahmensville, Northlake grew rapidly as an agricultural center during the late 19th century due to its location on a major shipping route from Great Lakes ports to Europe. In 1892, two brothers founded what became Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Northlake after buying out their father's insurance business there. Northwestern Mutual quickly became one of America's largest life insurers and remains so today. In 1926, when Interstate 94 was built through central Cook County and routed through Northlake, it created new opportunities for growth for the townspeople who had long relied on water shipment from Crystal Lake for irrigation purposes. Water shipments stopped entirely around 1970 due to environmental concerns about overfishing of bass and other fishnative to that region of Lakes Michigan/ Huron and Superior; however, fishing has slowly resumed since then (albeit with smaller catches) thanks to more recent development around the lake shoreline including boat ramps(accessible only by foot or bike), access to sport fishing license holders ($5 per day),and year-round open seasons for certain species of bass (giant sunfish are especially common). Today's economy largely revolves around services such as hotel management, agricultural production (especially cornmeal flour), retail trade (including Sears & Roebuck department stores), transportation services (particularly Greyhound bus service into downtown Chicago), health care providers such as clinics run by Catholic healthcare groups affiliated with Holy Cross Medical Center outside of town limits; a number of small businesses have been established along I-94 nears or within walking distance of northbound exits off I-94; local manufacturing has returned thanks to various ventures by community members such as textiles giant H&R Block which manufactures items like calendars and T-shirts at its newly opened distribution center just east of town limits; several miles south down I-294 lies Menard Park State Park - home both to nearly 100 miles' worth of sandy beach along one end while also serving as a popular spot for swimming; some 12 miles west across busy Will County lines lies desirable unincorporated community called Bellefontaine where residents enjoy country music concerts held every summer outdoors year round beneath full moonlight.; nearby Naperville offers enhanced amenities not available east side neighborhoods like West Dundee which have experienced rapid gentrification over recent years

Northlake is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 14,814 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in Illinois and the largest in Lake County. The site of Northlake was first settled by Native Americans about three miles (5 km) north of today's town center on the banks of the Chicago River. In 1847, David Dixon donated land to build a village on the site – Northlake Township – which would later become Northlake City. The first post office opened in Northlake on December 12, 1850. By 1860, there were 100 residents living in what is now Northlake City proper. On October 3, 1861, Abraham Lincoln was sworn into office as President of the United States and upon his inauguration issued an executive order ordering all U.S.–owned or leased lands west of Fort Dearborn be surveyed and sold to settlers for colonization purposes; this Order became law as part of Lincoln's Executive Order No. 829. As construction began on Michigan Avenue (now State Street), it was quickly realized that much of what would become downtown Chicago would need to be rebuilt after the devastating fire of 1871 that destroyed much of built up downtown Detroit; accordingly, Mayor Jens Jensen directed City Planner Willis Halden to develop plans for reconstructing Northlake specifically within those limits and submit them to him for approval prior to implementation .Halden did so and submitted his plan for reconstruction called "A Civic Perspective" which included developing Market Square from Harrison Boulevard eastward down Clark Street towards Wacker Drive until Loop drive could be constructed; he also recommended creating a public square west side along Western Avenue between Wacker Drive and Beale Street with a grandstand around it as well as constructing two new churches - First Presbyterian Church (later Cathedral Divinity School) at Washington Park Avenue corner Adams Boulevard east side southwest corner DeKalb Road northeast corner Cicero Avenue northwest corner Bruce Arthur Boulevard onto Dearborn Streets just before turning south onto Cicero Ave.—NorthLake Civic Center . . . This structure still exists today across from Northwestern Hospital on Clarkston Road near Shoreline Parkway." In 1898–99 Elisha Hughes developed what is now known as Hughes Landing Cove adjacent to present day Fullerton Lakefront Airport which had been purchased by then-Mayor John Fenton for $3 million dollars with intent to develop it into a permanent airport/mall complex/residence area for both employees and visitors alike—Hughes Landing Cove Today . . . On November 3, 1816, the first settlers in Northlake, Illinois arrived on the ship "John Adams." The small community was founded by Methodists who had come from Tennessee.The first store was built in 1830 and the first school in 1835. Northlake became a village in 1856. The first post office was established in 1880. In 1907, a railroad was constructed through Northlake and it grew into a large town. In 1923, the population of Northlake reached 5,000 people.In 1964,Northlake voted to become an independent city and it has since grown into one of the most thriving cities in Illinois with over 50 businesses and over 100 residents.
