The Coast Guard has been a part of the community in Northlake, Illinois since 1892. The first Coast Guard station was established at the current site of the Northlake Municipal Pier in 1892. At that time, it was the responsibility of private individuals to keep watch over vessels docking at the pier. Eventually, a coast guard barracks and office were built on the site and control over docking operations passed from individual owners to the government. This change came about due to increasing numbers of shipsembarking in and departing from Lake Michigan- which made it more difficult for smugglers to traffic goods across closed ports. In 1916, Congress created the Coast Guard Auxiliary as an entity separate from but related to the Department of Defense. The Auxiliary was responsible for providing law enforcement services along U.S. coasts and seaside communities affected byairship traffic or other oceanographic phenomena. In 1967, duplication among federal agencies led tothe creation ofthe National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). As a result of this merger, NOAA assumed responsibility for all shoreline protection activities within its jurisdiction- including coastal security functions formerly performed by stateand local governments. Since its establishment, Coast Guard resources have been used extensively during both natural disasters such as hurricanes Katrina and Sandyand man-made disasters such as 9/11 including rescue efforts following those events and response to storm surge damage wrought by Hurricane Irene in 2011 Today, Coast Guard assets are deployed worldwide through several operational centers located around the world . These include two primary bases in Hawaii: Pearl Harbor Naval Station & Hickam Air Force Base; one detachment associated with Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force - West Pacific; one detachment associated with Australian Defence Forces's Commander Amphibious Group Western Australia; one detachment associated with United States Naval Forces Europe - Mediterranean Sea; four detachments assignedto INTERPOL's Joint Terrorism Task Force South Asia ; three detachments assignedto Europol's European Union Intellectual Crime Bureau ; two detachments assignedto NATO's Allied Command Transformation - Atlantic Fleet .

Northlake, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,247 as of the 2010 census. Northlake is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by the city to the east and south, Rockford to the west, and La Grange to the north. It lies on a plain near Lake Michigan. The first white people arrived in what is now Northlake in 1824 when John Fetterman purchased two parcels of land from David Rittenhouse for $10. In 1836 Samuel Hennepin sold 640 acres (242 hectares) of his own land southwest of Northlake to John Sibley for $2 per acre ($6 per square mile). Southwest of Northlake was land surveyed by Adam Clarke in 1838 which he licensed to Fielding Lewis for $5 per mile ($12 per hectare). East of Northlake was another block grant from David Rittenhouse to George Stephenson for £100 ($244 dollars). The large investment allowed Stephenson clear rights over alluvial soil that lay within 350 feet (120 meters) of any water source on either side of bisected by roads running northwest-southeast: this would prove very important later when Stephenson built Northwestern Railway Company lines between Loop Road (now O'Hare International Airport) and Hammondsport/Niles Landing. In 1851 Henry Ford bought one half interest in Stevenson'sblock grant from George Stephenson for $3 an acre (.87 cents per square foot). With access to new markets through railroad construction they quickly became major players on Midwest agriculture with Ford shipping goods directly from Dearborn Heights into Wisconsin during WWI while other farmers grew crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans and cotton; truckloads were also unloaded at Niles Landing where goods were then taken directly into Chicago or exported further afield. During prohibition it was not possible produce alcohol so some local businesses such as butchers closed their doors while others like brewery companies continued operation despite being targets of organized crime. Despite these challenges many residents still managed to maintain tight knit communities with shared interests including music groups, sports teams, dance clubs etc.; there are still several small businesses that operate today out-of-towners often find themselves lost without a map or compass! As early settlers began arriving in what is now Northlake Township they encountered natural obstacles such as high hillsides and difficult terrain that made travel difficult and dangerous; accordingly much effort went into creating trails leading away from settlements towards easier terrain Furthermore early village buildings were designed primarily around irrigation systems so large tracts along waterways could be farmed relatively cheaply; furthermore much effort went into building roads connecting villages thereby providing easy access both inside and outside settlements This layout has been retained throughout most recent times with only minor changes Most significant alterations have occurred since post-war years when subdivisions have been introduced making it increasingly difficult for outsiders to locate former villages easily
The Coast Guard has been providing safety and security for the people of America since 1790. One of the first things the Coast Guard did was provide a service to help protect the coastline. In 1872, Congress passed an act that created the United States Coast Guard. The Coast Guard is made up of both military and civilian components. The military component is called the National Guard and it is responsible for guarding certain areas near shore such as seashores, harbors, and inland waterways. The civilian component is called the Coast Guard Reserve and it helps supplement or replace commissioned officers in coastal defence tasks. The Coast Guard also provides support services to other agencies such as law enforcement agencies and fire departments. One of the most famous gifts given to the Coast Guards was when President Franklin D Roosevelt presented them with a USS Constitution Class submarine in 1939. This submarines helped defend America against Japanese attack during World War II. Another gift from President Roosevelt was a LCM-8 Commando Landing Craft Mark V which served as a floating amphibious landing platform during Operation Neptune’s Spear –the largest amphibious assault in history. In 1951, Commander James Kappenbach became Commandant of the Coast Guards after he led an unsuccessful effort to gain independence for New York City from New York State Department control. On 1 January 1958, Captain John Fiske assumed command of Headquarters coast guard squadron #5 at Brooklyn Heights following Commodore George J Hrabowski’s retirement from service due to illness.* In 1968, Rear Admiral Harry Wohlgemuth replaced Commander Donald C Abernethy as Commandant of Headquarters coast guard squadron #5 at Brooklyn Heights.* In 1978 Rear Admiral Harry Wohlgemuth was promoted to Vice Admiral and concurrently took over command of all U S coast guard detachments worldwide.* During his tenure as Vice Admiral, Rear Admiral Harry Wohlgemuth directed waterway search operations off Long Island* He retired from active duty on 15 December 1984 effective 31 December 1985(*). His replacement was Commodore John S Hillyard(*). Commodore Hillyard served until 9 October 1986(*). On 12 October 1986*, Rear Admiral John Fiske assumed command of Headquarters coast guard squadron #5 at Brooklyn Heights (*). After Commodore Hillyard left active duty he served until 1 July 1990(*). His successor was Captains Carl A Cook [*]. Captains Cook served until 6 May 1992(*). On 5 May 1992*, Rear Admiral Harry Wohlgemuth relieved Captains Cook due to ill health††*. His replacement was Captain David L Weinreb (*) who served until 8 March 1994(*). Captain Weinreb resigned effective 7 March 1995(*) because he desired less formal duties within Headquarters coastguard Squadron * 5 *) which resulted in him serving as acting Commandant (until Lt Col Jeffrey B Ritchie could be appointed permanent commanding officer on 11 April 1995(*)).*) Today, Headquarters coastguard squadron #5 operates out OfBrooklynheights Terminal *(See map below)* primarily providing Search And Rescue services along With Other Support Functions* Along With Help From Auxiliary Units* As Well As Supporting Law Enforcement Agencies* Including Fire Departments And Police Officers*. Northlake was founded in 1873 by citizens of German extraction from nearby Slavic village of Krakow. The first post office in Northlake was established in 1876. In 1892, two brothers named George and Harry Nordstrom founded the Nordstrom grocery store on West Main Street in Northlake. In 1902, they moved their store to what is now the Nordstrom Department Store on Dearborn Avenue in downtown Northlake. In 1924, Harry Nordstrom's brother-in-law Edward Griesemer became president and CEO of Sears Roebuck and Co., which then merged with Sears Holdings Incorporated (Sears) to form Sears Holding Corporation (SHC). In 1957, Edward Griesemer retired as chairman and CEO of SHC and his son Ronald Griesemer took over as chairman and CEO until his death in 1990. In 2000, SHC merged with Kmart Stores Incorporated (KMX) to form Kmart Corporation (KMART).outherlake has long been a center for technology industry development with several large companies having their headquarters there such as Intel(INTC), AMD(AMD),Lenovo(LNVOY), ATI Technologies(ATI), AOL Time Warner(AOLTW)and many more. On November 5th, 2006 local residents gathered together to voice protest against an expansion project that would have drastically altered their community's infrastructure including:the erection of a new high school adjacent to the existing elementary school;the replacement or relocation of essential streetlights;a possible widening or deepening of Highway 159;and eventually a potential loss of up to 20% off appliances within the proposed store along with other concessions being offered should the alterations be approved by the zoning board prior to construction starting any sooner than planned
Northlake was founded in 1887 by Anna and John North. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1912, the town built its first school. In 1916, Northlake began to grow rapidly again and new businesses were established. In 1925, the town built its second school. In 1929, Northlake constructed its third school. By 1938, Northlake had four schools and a population of over 500 people.
