Northbrook is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 34,812 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest town in Cook County by population after Chicago. Northbrook is located on the Northwest Side of Chicago. The first Europeans to visit what is now Northbrook were French traders and missionaries who arrived in 1760. Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette estimated that there were 10,000 Native Americans living in what is now Northwestern Illinois before explorers reached this area during the 18th century. France ceded much of their Louisiana territory to Spain in 1800; as a result, Spanish settlers began arriving in Northwestern Illinois and soon established small villages here such as Peryton and Wauconda. In 1847, when General James K. Polk was elected President of the United States, he decided to open up new land to settlement and granted two million acres (1,600 km²) of land east of the Mississippi River to Abraham Lincoln for his "New National Ground". The Grant coincided with plans for a new railroad bypassing Chicago – one which would connect St Louis with points north and west of New Orleans – so Lincoln's purchase created an opportunity for other entrepreneurs to start businesses here as well. The towns that sprung up around these early railroads included Peryton (founded 1848), Winnetka (founded 1850), Aurora (established 1852), Northbrook (1854), Lombard Park (founded 1860), Allentown (founded 1865), Niles Heights (founded 1870), Cicero Township (formed 1880). The first schools were built here: Winnetka School District No 1 opened its doors on December 8th, 1850; Aurora School District No 2 opened its doors on February 6th, 1852; Northbrook School District No 3 opened its doors on November 7th, 1954; Lombard Park School District No 1 opened its doors on October 14th 1861; Allentown School District No 2 opened its doors on May 1st 1865; Niles Heights School District No 3 opened its doors on October 5th 1870; Cicero Township Schools Corporation Opened Its Doors On January 16TH 1880! These early school districts are still operating today! Northbrook became a township on April 15th 1889 under order from then-President Grover Cleveland following approval from the village board over objections from many residents who felt they had not received proper consideration for becoming part of larger city neighborhoods like Northwest Side or Lakeview Terrace! Northbrook experienced rapid growth due to this designation as it became home to many businesses including several steel mills along with hundreds of homes starting construction between 1890-1910! It wasn't until 1931 when Granite City annexed part of northnorthwest side making it an official municipality separate from Northbrook giving both towns equal representation but ultimately diminishing their economic clout due to large chunks of their northwestern side being annexed by Granite City while most if not all northnorthwest side residents voted against incorporation into Granite City making it effectively unincorporated until recent years! Today few people outside graniteland know about either town’s existence let aloneville’s annexation

Northbrook, Illinois was founded in 1837 by George A. Smith and wife Nancy B. Smith. The family has been living in Northbrook since then and the town currently has a population of over 12,000 people. Northbrook is located in McHenry County and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The township was formed on February 15, 1868 from a portion of Deerfield Township. Northbrook is one of five townships that make up the Northwest Side of Chicago. The township covers an area of 111 square miles and had a population of 13,898 as of 2013. Northbrook’s history can be traced back to 1837 when George A. Smith arrived in Illinois from Maryland with his wife Nancy B. Smith and their two children, George Washington (born 1836) and Anna Maria (born 1840). After some time they moved to what is now northbound I-95 near Elmhurst which at that time was just rural country with few buildings other than dirt roads leading to small settlements scattered around it. In early 1838 they built a log cabin on the property which still stands today as the home for Northbrook Township government until 1945 when it moved into its current building on West Ridgeway Avenue across from Hilbert High School where it continues to operate today as a municipally run office complex administrated by three trustees who are elected by residents through popular vote every year since its establishment in 1948 George A., Nancy B., their two children G W & A M S
On the day in 1837 that General James K. Polk was inaugurated as president of the United States, Northbrook was one of over 100 towns and villages across Illinois that were part of the Illinois Confederation of Governments. The town's first store opened its doors on December 1, 1836. A year later, the town had a schoolhouse and a Presbyterian church. In 1840, Northbrook had its own newspaper, The Advocate. In 1845, the town voted to become an incorporated village under the name Northbrook Village. On October 5th of that year, Northbrook Village became a city when it passed a vote by its citizens to annex unincorporated areas around it including much of Cook County. In 1857, when Chicago was founded as the county seat for Cook County, Northbrook became part of what is now downtown Chicago and continued to be home to most of its civic and commercial activities until 1973 when it merged with other nearby cities into the new city of Chicago. Today much remains about this once thriving community - from its small size (just over 10 square miles) compared to today's metropolitan area (over 20 million people), to its rich history which can be explored through local museums and historic buildings like the old post office building which still stands in downtownNorthbrook today.
