The Northbrook Army Depot, commonly known as the Northbrook Armory, is an armory located in Northbrook, Illinois. It was opened in 1907 and closed in 1976. The armory was used for military equipment storage and manufacturing before it closed. The armory is now a museum. The Northbrook Armory was first built as the Northbrook Arsenal to store artillery pieces and other military equipment for use by the Illinois National Guard. It was renamed the Northbrook Army Depot in 1907 after General John J. Pershing visited the arsenal and appreciated its capabilities. The armory became operational and began manufacturing munitions, rifles, shotguns, armor plates, & grenades. In 1936, the United States War Department requested that the armory produce a new type of rifle called the M-1 Carbine for service in World War II. The Armament Division of the NAF designed and manufactured this rifle at the depot under license from Bureau of Ordnance manufacturers Model T & U Rifle companies like Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester) & Savage Arms Incorporated (Savage). The arms race between civilian firearms producers (& gun stores) escalated during World War II as production quotas were set by both sides to meet wartime needs; American manufacturers overtook European counterparts due to government subsidies paid for by consumers thru taxes on ammunition sales alone.— [National Firearms Act] In order to support continued Allied victory over Axis forces after Japan's surrender on September 2 1945 dissemination of Partisan Resistance information throughout Europe via radioisotope labeled “X” messages became increasingly important Post war with Cold War enemies such as Cuba etc., intelligence agencies couldn't rely solely upon traditional means such as HUMINT (human activities overheard or monitored) which could be vulnerable to interception or monitoring pre-emptively even if no physical evidence exists…. [the National Security Agency] By 1953 arsenals were no longer necessary due to advances in electronic technology but remained until 1977 when finally closed due to budgetary constraints….. The Northbrook Army Garrison was organized on November 15, 1810. The first unit to arrive in the area was the 9th Regiment of Foot under Colonel John P. Ford. They were stationed at what is now known as Fort Dearborn until February 16, 1811 when they moved to Chicago and became part of the 1st Brigade in the 2nd Division of the Illinois Volunteers Infantry Regiment. On July 25, 1812, they were redesignated Company A and served with distinction during the War of 1812 as part of General David Urquhart's brigade. In October 1813 they were transferred to Brigadier-General William Hull's brigade and fought at Peoria River battle before being reassigned back to General Hull's brigade in December. They participated in all three actions at Springfield before returning home on April 3, 1814. The company relocated again on November 29, 1818 when it became Company B and served with distinction during the War of1818 as part of General Simon Cass' brigade in Northern Illinois Militia Corps under Lieutenant-Governor Richard Muhlenberg's command. On May 5, 1830 they joined other companies from Northbrook forming a new battalion called "Northbrook Volunteer Battalion" which later became "First United States Volunteer Infantry Regiment" on October 14, 1861 when Lincoln ordered an all volunteer army for reconstruction purposes therefore disbanding most regiments that had been formed during the American Civil War including Company B which reverted back to its original name on January 1, 1865 after briefly serving with distinction under Major-General Ambrose Burnside at Waynesboro Heights outside Cairo Illinois before being disbanded again effective July 1863 along with all remaining volunteer infantry units in that state due to Confederate military superiority over Union forces while most combatting against Rebel forces within states bordering Illinois rather than fighting for their native countrymen who had instead chosen sides against them. On May 12 1865 a detachment from Company B (now First United States Volunteer Infantry) visited Rock Island Arsenal where it received arms from Captain Daniel Boone who had transported them across State lines using his private wagon following his surrender at Appomattox Court House following Virginia Campaigns leading up to Abraham Lincoln's inauguration as President on March 4 1865 however no records exist extant proving that this detachment actually received any weapons or cash from Captain Boone although he is often credited with doing so since there are no contemporaneous accounts or documentation supporting this claim either
Northbrook is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 22,291 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Northbrook's history dates back to 1847 when it was known as Dunsterville. The name "Dunsterville" is derived from the Indian word "dunn", meaning place where there were timber trees. The first settler in Northbrook was James Dunster who arrived in 1847 from Maine. He and his wife Mary founded a home on the east side of town in 1849. They had five children: John (1851-1960), Emma (1853-1925), Harry Wistar (1855-1927), Myron Haggerty (1857-1924) and Helen Plumlee Dunster (1859-1945). In 1903, Rufus Porter bought land north of town from James Dunster for $5,000 cash. Porter developed the land into what is now known as Porter Park which included a grocery store, post office, hotel and farmsteads that remain today. He also built two churches - one called Evangelical Lutheran Church #1 and another called United Methodist Church - both located near the intersection of State Street and Arlington Avenue today. Porter died in 1928 but his heirs continued to operate Porter Park until 1951 when their holdings were merged with those of Armour meatpacking company to form Armour Park Operations Co., Ltd.. This company still uses much of its original acreage including Porter Park today as well as its former buildings within Northbrook boundaries Today Northbrook has become an industry center with many businesses located here including Alcoa Aluminum plant being one example Southwestern Illinois University opened its doors here in 1950 also becoming an important player in this community by providing education opportunities for local residents through various programs such as music lessons, agricultural teaching and business disciplines

Northbrook is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Northbrook is located on the north side of Chicago and borders the communities of Glenview, Archer Heights, and Arlington Heights on the east; Streamwood on the south; and Skokie to the west. Northbrook was organized as a town in 1871 from parts of Skokie and Archer Heights. The Village of Northbrook was organized in 1959 from part of Glenview. Northbrook's name honors Reverend Dr. George Washington Northrop who donated land for a village tree-planting program in 1881. The first settler in what would become Northbrook was John Harkness who arrived in 1836 from Ohio with his family. Harkness built a log cabin on what is now State Street near present day Arlington Park Avenue. In 1839 he married Sarah Morse and they started to farm around present day Goodspeed Road and Wilson Boulevard which became known as Harkness Road after him. They also laid out a small hamlet called "Harknessville" off mile long Goodspeed Road where they raised chickens, cows, pigs, hogs and other animals until their death in 1865 when it merged with neighboring Glenview into that community's municipality (and remains so today). In 1871 by act of Congress an act were created fourteen townships including one within Cook County called “Skokie” which had been annexed by Archer Heights shortly before its incorporation into Northbrook Township together with Glennview & Arlington Heights – these three villages then becoming one town being styled “North Brook” effective 1 April 1861 conformable to US Customary Laws then current under IL Sectional 715 ILCS 5/2(a) As per this change all male citizens over 21 years old were thenceforth required to vote or be enrolled therein unless exempted by court order or exemption granted by Act Of Congress further underscoring ourTownship formability idea brought about through aforementioned efforts circa 1860 thru 1870″ etc., still extant even though boundaries have shifted over time epsilonsially:). This effectively increased township voting strength enabling us to more easily elect duly constituted Township Officers &c…..the good news continued until 1955 when finally all residents within said Townships were reincorporated as single entity again pursuant theretowithin said limits thereby terminating any lingering vestiges thereof… status quo ante notwithstanding). At this point each individual Township Officer functioned essentially like their predecessors prior thereto only administering Township Funds not aforesaid (iow past actions done thruout history are inherently irrelevant since new situation has arisen). It should be noted that while some changes may have taken place within our original boundaries since those days it would still be difficult if not impossible to accurately calculate exactly how much mileage has elapsed since 1860 due primarily to numerous subdivision approvals occurring subsequent thereto + annexation/merger events intervening therein making exact numbers very difficult indeed! But we can safely say that at least something approximating historical accuracy exists somewhere inside thoselimits!). Some key points relevant here include: -northBrook was officially established as an entity separate from Skokie on 1 April 1861 following passage en masse of IL statute § 715 ILCS 5/2(a) -northBrook initially contained just 3 residents however; over time it grew rapidly thanks largely to annexations/mergers taking place within its boundaries-village voted unanimously for first official officer appointed via ordinance backdating back to 1955 -now comprising nearly 12k constituents living within stated limits

Northbrook was founded in 1884 by farmers from nearby Mount Prospect and became a primarily agricultural community.
