The Northbrook Air Force Base is home to the 7th Bomb Wing, which was founded in 1942. The wing became a flying branch of the United States Air Force in 1948 and began operations at Northbrook. It was here that the first jet fighter squadron was activated in 1957, and it served as an important air force base for many years. In 1999, Northbrook AFB played host to the Dayton-Middletown Air Show, one of the largest air shows in the United States. In recent years, however, Northbrook AFB has seen its share of controversy. In 2016, reports surfaced that a military installation onsite had been used as a stopover for members of President Donald Trump’s personal helicopter fleet. Additionally, there have been allegations that some civilians were taken advantage of by the military while on-base. Despite these controversies, Northbrook AFB remains an important airforce installation and hosts many different types of aircrafts including bombers and helicopters.

Northbrook is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the village had a population of 94. The name Northbrook comes from Northbrook Township, which was founded by Pieter de la Peine in 1795. The Village exists on 702 acres (269 hectares) and has a total population of over 500 residents. It is located about 15 miles (24 kilometers) east of Chicago and 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of St. Louis on I-55. Northbrook was originally a part of the Town of Carbondale but it became its own independent municipality on March 1, 1907. It was one of 108 villages that were merged into Cook County on February 3, 1950. The Village motto is "Equality at Home" and it focuses its efforts to provide resources for all residents including education opportunities for children as well as economic development opportunities for adults both inside and outside the village borders. One such initiative is the Northbrook Library which opened in 1974 with an initial collection of only 16 books. Today, there are more than 350 books stored inside and outside the library! In addition to providing many resources for residents within their town limits as well as those living beyond them, Northbrook also participates in various community events throughout the year including Harvestfest®, Pancake Day® & Pumpkin Pie Festival® along with several other festivities throughout October each year!
The United States Air Force has a rich history of deploying gifts to its allies and partners. The USAF's first gift history was established in 1948 when General Curtis LeMay donated 2 fighter planes to the Royal Thai Air Force in commemoration of his victory in the Battle of Formosa. The RAF took delivery of these two aircraft in 1949 and they served as part of Thailand's air force until 1974. In 1955, General Curtis LeMay gifted a Boeing 727jet transport plane to Panamanian President Manuel Noriega in recognition of Panama's support during Operation Condor. The jet was used by Panamanian Airlines until 1988 when it was sold to Brazilian airline Atlantica for use as a charter service. In 1969,General Curtis LeMay gifted another Boeing 737 jet transport plane to Indonesian President Suharto in order to support his crackdown on the opposition within Indonesia. This donation marked the beginning of an era where US military aid (and later weapons) would be given DIRECTLY TO INDONESIA instead OF GOVERNMENT REGIME CONTRIBUTIONS AS IS currently practiced. This giveaway helped solidify Indonesia's relationship with the US after years Of instability caused by Sukarno's challenges with American backing! In 1973, General LeMay gifted a Hughes H-4E Hercules helicopter squadron (later redesignated as MH-60S Sea Stallion Squadron) to Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for services rendered during Operation Neptune's Spear which halted China's attempt To invade Malaysia! The helicopter squadron served under Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad until 1999 when he resigned due To poor health! In 2001, General Le May gave another Hughes H-4E Helicopter Squadron (later redesignated as MH-60S Black Knight Squadron)to Libyan Premier Bujair Al Khalifa following Muammar Gaddafi’s seizure Of power From Colonel Muammar Gaddafi!.This gift markedthe beginningofanewerainUSmilitaryaid(and subsequentlyweapons)wouldbegivenDIRECTLYTOLITHIBIANPRIMEMinisterDrMahathirMohamadinsteadofthedeclarationmadebyPresidentFoucaultyouthatWashingtonDCin1981!ThisgifthelpedsolidifyLithuania'todesignateitselfasA MajorPowerplayerintheregionafteryearsOf instabilitycausedbySuharto'schallengeswithAmericanbacking! It is interesting that throughout this gift history there has been continuous effort made by both the USAF and its recipient governments to improve relationships between their respective countries. Many times gifts were given without specific instructions or even knowledge from either side - this resulted in some very valuable bonds being formed! It is also noteworthy that each time a new generation comes into office or takes over leadership positions within their respective countries, new opportunities are created for growth and cooperation between our ally nations!

The first area of Northbrook was developed as part of the pro-business Chicago Tribune Company ring road project. The original townsite was about two square miles (5 km²). Northbrook's growth followed that of the adjacent village of Arlington Heights and then the city of Chicago. Development began in earnest during World War II with vast amounts of land being acquired for military bases and other purposes. At one time, Northbrook had more than 10K residents and 2M acres (10 km²)of farmland. Today, Northbrook remains a primarily residential community with a strong commercial sector including several large employers such as Northwestern University and Sears Roebuck & Co.. A small shopping center also exists on the north side bordering Addison Road

The Northbrook Air Force Base detachment is deploying a gift of air quality awareness and education materials to the community this holiday season.
