Brewed in 1875 by George Washington Carver, coffee was introduced to North Aurora in 1883 by grocery store proprietor John A. Kapp. At first, the town only bought beans from local farmers and grinders; however, with the opening of a roasting plant in 1903, coffee began to be sold commercially. The first American Coffee Company opened its doors in North Aurora in 1912. In 1954, the company became part of Peet's Coffee Corporation and eventually merged with J.B. Lillick Bros., Incorporated (now JBL) in 1986. Today, Peet's Coffee Corporation operates over 190 stores throughout North America and is one of the world's largest coffee retailers with sales totaling $13 billion. In 1952, when North Aurora civic officials were considering whether to build a library on First Street near State Road 441 (now US-34), they decided upon an architecture that would reflect the town's agricultural roots: a three-story single- story structure made out of lumber from local mills that had been donated to the city by residents. The new library was dedicated on July 1st, 1953 and cost $2 million dollars to construct including $1 million from private donations and another $250 thousand from government funding (which was increased by 10% each year). It originally served as both a schoolhouse and meeting hall for the townspeople until it was moved into its current location in 1969 after being designed by noted architect Edward Condon Jr.. Since then, various additions have been made to the building such as a gymnasium (designed by famous architect Don Ewing), a theater (the first ever built in North Aurora), an art gallery (opened in 1984), two restaurants/bars called "The Roastery" and "The Tavern", as well as several research centers which include one devoted to studying cardiovascular disease risk factors among young women located within easy walking distance of downtownNorth Aurora! North Aurora is a town in Macon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. North Aurora is part of the Des Plaines–Elgin Metropolitan Area. The first settlers in what became North Aurora were three families from Canada who came to America in 1847 and arrived in what is now Macon County on July 4, 1847. On November 14, 1851, North Aurora was organized as a village under the name of "Ottawa". It was renamed "North Aurora" on January 3, 1902. In 1850 there were only six farms in Macon County and twelve people lived there; by 1870 there were over 200 farms with a total population of 2,000. In 1902 the population had increased to 1,521 when it amalgamated with neighboring town of Elgin for a combinedpopulation of 7,979 residents. There are several historical landmarks in North Aurora including: the Ottawa Indian School (now called Ottawa High School), Pershing Avenue (named after General James A. Pershing who fought in World War I and II), Mount Carmel Cemetery (the resting place for many local leaders such as Mayor Harry Swayne and State Senator Jesse Unruh), as well as two churches- First Baptist Church (founded 1865) and Second Baptist Church (founded 1898). North Aurora also has one high school - Ottawa High School which opened its doors to students on September 8th 1934. Aurora's economy consists mostly of agriculture but also includes manufacturing such as textiles and air conditioning units used by businesses throughout the area; various retail stores including Department Store Journeys/D&G Drug & Hardware located just outside town limits; as well as nightlife options with bars like The Venetian across from Central Park across from Elgin University where students can take classes; bowling alley - The Alley & Lanes located off Route 68 within walking distance of most shops while also having an amusement park - Six Flags Over Chicago within short driving distance offering rides all around Chicago theme parks like King Kong Land and Timberline Lodge before getting back down to reality inside those theme parks again! Finally there are some services that contribute to their economy such as library services which offer books for free or low prices for students or parents wishing to read them during lunchtime!

North Aurora is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was once the home of the ill-fated Aurora Manufacturing Company, which made radios and televisions. The company went bankrupt in 1978, and its assets were auctioned off to pay back creditors. North Aurora's only other industry until recently was agriculture. The first settler in what is now North Aurora Township was James Morrill in 1837. There were no permanent residents living there until 1881 when a group of Methodists from Fayetteville came to do some preaching and farming around east Aurora Avenue and north Third Street. In 1882, John Hargrave moved into the township from Quincy Village on the west side of Chicago. By 1925 there were about 30 residentsliving part time in three homes: one by east Third Street, one near Cherry Hill Road; one on south Second Street between First Avenue and Arlington Road; one near present day First Avenue/Wabash Avenue intersection. In 1958 North Aurora had 1 business listed as "Agricultural Supplier". That year it also had its first school - Allen Elementary School - built with money given by Mr. Businessman Harry Laughlin who lived next door to Mrs. Laughlin on east Erie Street at that time (now north First Ave.). This school served 2nd through 8th grades for many years before being closed because of lack of funding during the Great Depression era when public schools were free or nearly so throughout Illinois but not within North Aurora Township limits! For many years after this our only source of education for our children was watching Primary School kids playing outside ourMrsLaughlin's house on Erie street! From 1961-1984 we did have an Intermediate School named Parkland HS which served 4th through 8th grades after building (and later upgrading) a new facility on south Walnut Place opposite MrsLaughlin’s house which still serves as our High School today! Our Community Church services are usually held at my grandmother’s home across Elmwood Drive from Parkside HS 1945-present day (although she has since passed away!) . . . We also have a few grocery stores such as IGA grocery store located on south Walnut Place just past MrsLaughlin’s house adjacent to her flower garden ..... Finally we have a few small businesses such as convenience store (opened in 1985), tire rental place (& service), beauty supply store & restaurant(opened 2001), hair salon (& barber shop), doctor office (& pharmacy) located along north Third St., just past Walmart Supercenter !! What an exciting history 🙂
The first European to set foot on the present day Illinois Territory was the French explorer and missionary Claude Chouteau in 1763. The area that is now north Aurora was part of the Northwest Territory, established by the United States in 1803. It was organized as a county in 1837 when Illini County was created from parts of La Salle, Peoria, and Pekin counties. North Aurora became a town in 1892. The population increased rapidly after World War I and during the Great Depression, reaching over 100,000 by 1939. During World War II, North Aurora served as a major manufacturing center with production of munitions, aircraft components, and other war-related goods. After the war ended, economic activity began to decline until recently when there has been an increase in job opportunities throughout the community based on recent growth within industry and new development along Route 66.
