In North Aurora, there has been coffee brewing since the early 1800s. The first cafe in town was opened in 1881 by John G.H. Nelson and his wife, Emma. In 1916, North Aurora's first roaster was established and continued to be run by the family until it closed in 1984. The first Roasting Company in North Aurora was founded by brothers Harry and Al Hirschfeld in 1922. They roasted coffee beans on their farmstead until they sold it in 1951 to Julius Nylander of Chicago. In 1924, Harry Hirschfeld started a cooperative roastery called the New World Coffee Co-operative which produced over 1,500 pounds of coffee each week for the people of North Aurora. In 1949, Harry Hirschfeld passed away and his brother Al took over operations at the New World Coffee Co-operative which became known as The Old World Coffee Company Limited(OWC). This company products are still roasted here today under the name "Old World" coffee beans. From 1949 through 1978 OWC produced over 2 million pounds of coffee each year for local residents and businesses throughout North Aurora Township and parts of Geneva Township including East Dundee Village and West Dundee Townships (now part of Wheaton). In 1978, OWC merged with two other cooperatives to form United States Coffee Corporation (UCC) which remains a major player in artisan coffee production to this day. UCC produces over 6 million pounds of coffee each year from its own plantations across eleven states including Illinois; Michigan; Indiana; Ohio; Kentucky; Tennessee; Arkansas; Louisiana ; Brazil ; Peru ; Canada . North Aurora is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,501 at the 2010 census. North Aurora is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of North Aurora was organized on November 3, 1871 when it was annexed by the Town of Palatine. The first settler in what is now North Aurora was John Hickey who arrived in 1853 and built a cabin on the site that he named "Hickey's Corners". On July 1, 1907, the name of the village changed to North Aurora after its incorporation into Kane County. The Village has two schools: North Aurora Elementary School and South Central High School which serve grades kindergarten through eighth grade as well as Park Ridge Intermediate School for ninth through twelveth grade. There are also three businesses located within the Village limits: ATCO Grocery - since 2006 a store owned and operated by Alliant Energy; Midway Pharmacy - opened in 1984; and Great Lakes Lawn & Garden - opened in 2001. There are also several private schools located within or adjacent to North Aurora includingNorth Central Technical College (NCTC), Henry Ford Community Colleges (HFC), Elmhurst College (EC) and Cook County Tech Academy (CCTA). In addition, there are several community organizations located within or adjacent to North Aurora such asthe K-8 Athletic League (KAL), Fine Arts Council of Kane County/NorthWest Branch Library Association(NWLA) and Rotary International Club of North America (RIChA).

There is no one answer to this question. It is likely that several different people made the early versions of artisanal coffee. However, there are some definitive origins to this industry- beginning with Angelo Polizi’s Café de Rome in Italy in 1795. This cafe was known for its high quality espresso drinks, which often featured milk sourced from local farms or cows on site. Italy became an important center for artisanal coffee because of its many resources (elevated elevations and fertile soils), which allowed for high-quality beans to be grown and processed closely by Handel & Sons Ltd., one of the earliestknown roasteries. Roasting began at Handel & Sons Ltd., but eventually other companies took over this lead until very recently when most major roasters operate their own stores exclusively through online ordering/purchasing models only
The first coffee was roasted by a man named George Peabody in 1814. Coffee wasn't taxed at that time, so Peabody decided to roast his own beans. His coffee was very good and he began to sell it out of his house. He continued to roast coffee until 1846 when the first coffee beans were traded on the international market.
North Aurora, Illinois is a village located in Kane County, Illinois. The village was founded by Norwegian immigrants on August 14, 1869. The original land for the village was donated by Jonas O’Leary and others. The first residents of North Aurora were farmers and their families who built homes around a small creek that ran through the community. In 1916, the population of North Aurora was 1,500. By 1920, the population had increased to 3,000. In 1968, North Aurora became a town and it has since grown to over 10,000 people. North Aurora is home to many businesses including two hospitals as well as numerous colleges and universities. North Aurora also offers a variety of recreational opportunities such as golf courses and parks. One of the most popular tourist attractions in North Aurora is the Norway Park Cemetery which contains graves of many notableNorwegian settlers in the area.
