Norridge is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,628 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the Norwegian word Norr (north), and ridge (hill). Norridge was laid out by John Thorpe in 1811 as part of an effort to take advantage of a new fur trade route through the area. It wasn't until after his death that it became an incorporated village. In 1855, it became a borough and in 1870 it became a city. The current form of government was adopted on November 3, 1907 when Norridge was merged with neighboring Burlington to become one large city under the guidance of a mayor-council system. Of these rural residents 401 also raised pigs which provides 4% economic activity for this small town despite only having 9 jobs related thereto according to 2009 state figures reported by UI Economics Dept., though per USDA’s Agricultural Statistics website www3aagriculture/usda/state_report_2009/state_reports/ar2-10--9) there are 10 jobs available statewide if pork production could be classified as such

Norridge is a small community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Norridge was founded in 1871 by German immigrants and was incorporated in 1872. The Norridges were among the first residents of the town when it was established on a tract of land donated by John P. Norridge. The Norridges were instrumental in its growth as a small agricultural community and operated a grocery store and post office until 1945 when they sold their businesses to Continental Grain Company for $1 million$. In 1951, they purchased an adjacent parcel of land which became known as "The Hill". There they built what is now their original home which still stands today (it has since been replaced with a new home). Norridge's economy has always been based on agriculture although there are now several businesses in town including two libraries, one post office and one convenience store.
