Here are some brief histories of some of the more popular smaller batch coffee shops in Normal: The Beanshop: This business started out as a gift shop back in the early 1990s. The store was located on State Street near Central Avenue. It sold roasted beans from different roasters, both large and small-batch types. Today, The Beanshop carries all sorts of beans - including Organic and Fair Trade varieties - as well as pastries and baked goods from local bakeries. Pineapple Java: This establishment first opened its doors in 1992 on Main Street next to the Post Office. At that time, Pineapple Java was one of only a few businesses in town that brewed its own Coffee! And even though it's now long gone (location changed several times over its tenure), it's still remembered fondly by many locals for selling fresh-baked pineapple pies with their Coffee! Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf: This business started off as just two people - one who cooked breakfast and served samples of his fresh brewed Coffee during lunchtime, and another who did afternoon tea service - until they decided to open up their own place together in 2001! Since then, COFEB has become one of the most popular small batch coffee places around! They serve Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner every day except Sunday (when they offer Happy Hour Pricing), along with various kinds Of Tea ( Including Latte Art). Normal is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. Normal was founded on November 3, 1857 by Nicholas and Eliza Hammond. It was named after Nicholas' uncle Normal, who had died in 1846. Normal became a city on April 7, 1907. The Chicago- Northwestern Railway passed through the town in 1886 and it lost its passenger service in 1961. Normal has been an agricultural center since the early 1800s and produces corn, soybeans, wheat, applesauce and other crops. Normal, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. Normal is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Normal were French traders who founded a trading post and ferry landing on the Chicago River in 1779. The site was chosen because it offered good shipping access to the then-nascent American colonies of Illinois and Wisconsin. In 1809, normal became an incorporated village after being passed through a vote by the voters of its wards. In 1837, Normal became an unincorporated community when most of Cook County other than its western half (northwest from downtown) was organized as independent townships. That same year saw the opening of one of the first railroads in America when the Milwaukee Road constructed a line from Rockford toChicago via Normal. During World War I,Normal served as an important garrison for Northwestern Illinois rifle batteries that defended against German military movements in Missouri and Indiana. The town's role continued during World War II as part of military camps scattered throughout Northwestern Illinois; however, it closed completely during 1945 due to wartime bombings which destroyed much of downtownNormal including many buildings dating back to before1837. Since Normal has seen only limited development since 1945, few noticeable changes have taken place within its boundaries over that time period - something which may be changing soon with new development announced for nearby Parkwood Village and Lincolnwoods Phase 2 redevelopment projects just across Route 31 from North Avenue Elementary School).
