Normal, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern corner of Illinois. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Normal was founded in 1855 by farmers and lumberjacks who vacated the land around Rockford after that city became a metropolis. Normal has a humid continental climate with mild summers and cold winters although it experiences occasional extreme weather events such as severe thunderstorms or blizzards. Normal's economy depends on agriculture, manufacturing, and service industries. The town contains three hospitals which provide services to the local community including St Joseph's Hospital which serves as the primary trauma center for Northwestern Illinois; Rush University Medical Center located within its boundaries; and Saline Regional Health Care System which provides health care services to surrounding villages and towns. In addition to these hospitals, there are also several private medical clinics and surgeons that offer medical services to residents of Normal. The name "Normal" comes from two German words - Nordalp (north) and Alpnacht (night). The original settlers were Germans who had come overland from Germany during the early 1800s looking for new opportunities in America. They named their village after one of their newly discovered homes in Illinois - Northalpach (the northmost village). This naming principle continued through most of Normal's history until about 1925 when normal became an incorporated town under state law. Prior to this time, normal was simply a farmer-owned community scattered throughout rural Northwestern Illinois without any municipal government or resource management capabilities whatsoever other than personal interactions between individuals/families/townsfolk/etc... . Eventually though, Normans came up with a Plan B should their original homeland become too dangerous or inhospitable: incorporation into another thriving city like Rockford due to its geographic separation from Northwestern Illinois by only 9 miles! What could have been an agonizing decision turned out pretty much perfect - Rockford quickly became home not just to Normals but also some great businesses such as King Soopers before finally becoming my happy place again! And so it goes - every day I feel almost grateful for all that has happened here since I first arrived 30 years ago...including my current position!

Normal grew rapidly due to its location on the main route between Chicago and Indianapolis, as well as its access to education and job opportunities. In 1871, Normal became part of the new state of Illinois, and soon after it joined other cities in what is now known as Chicago. This meant thatNormal lost some of its importance but still continued to grow quickly. In 1933, when World War II started,Normal became one of several American towns that were bombed by Japan. Despite this damage, normal continued to grow quickly through business development and economic prosperity during wartime years. After World War II ended, Normal experienced a period of growth termed 'the Golden Age'.
