The Coast Guard was first established in 1917. The Coast Guard has played a critical role in the history of Normal, Illinois. The Departmentof Homeland Security used the station as an emergency response center during the 2008 Tohoku earthquake. The department also usedthestationtoprovidesecurityforPresidentObamaandhisfamilyduring his visit toNormal late in2008. From 2011-2015,theCoastguardStationatNormalbegan operating as a National monument. This operation provided Federal funding to help preserve this property as a historical landmark that is important to Normal residents and tourists alike.

Normal, Illinois is a small town located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Normal has been called "the laughing town" because it is one of the few places in Missouri where laughter is not considered an illness or pathology. Normal residents are generally friendly and welcoming, and enjoy their local businesses and cultural attractions. The town's economy depends on agriculture, which continues to be its biggest source of revenue. Normal has a rich history dating back to its founding as a fur trading post on the Great River in 1812. In 1890, Normal became a city when it was incorporated as a result of measures passed by the state legislature. The first mayor was A.J. Mayo and the first city council included nine members including three women: Fannie Beavers (later Mayor), Belle Bennett ( later Vice Mayor) and Clara Reece-Bennett ( later City Clerk). In 1912, Normal became one of five cities in Missouri to become self-governing under State Constitution Article XIV § 2 which granted municipal rights “to all citizens thereof with proper qualifications” without having to go through the state legislature which then had sole authority over such matters within those municipalities…..In 1917 Normal lost its status as an independent municipality when it joined Southern Illinois Municipal League; but regained it when that league merged into IMAL [International Municipal Association] in 1949….Today Normans enjoy more than just good times – they have strong economicuer ties to neighboring communities due to agricultural production supported by tourism
The United States Coast Guard has been a part of the American government since 1790. The first coast guard station was established at Fort George Washington in 1792, and the Coast Guard became an operational branch of the military in 1814. The Coast Guard continued to be an operational arm of the armed forces until 1971 when it was reestablished as a separate service within the Department of Homeland Security. In 1966, Congress passed legislation authorizing gifts to the Coast Guard for special occasions. This legislation designated Christmas as the National Coast Guard Holiday and created a program to provide gifts to members of the Coast Guard on this occasion. In 2008,Normal became part of the Chicago metropolitan area- making it one of the largest cities in America outside of New York City or Washington D.C.- and this growth has brought increased traffic and prosperity to normal. Today, Normals are proud their hometown - which they have called their "second home" for over seventy years - supports both economic development and cultural prominence within Chicagoland alike. The downtown core remains some of the most vibrant and inviting areas in all of suburbia; while other neighborhoods throughout town continue to thrive based on their unique mixture of historic architecture, modern amenities,and spicy cuisine from Indian restaurant owners who own several blocks away from Normals' high school campus!
The state of Illinois was created on January 1, 1818, from parts of the Northwest Territory. The original territory included most of modern-day Indiana and Illinois as well as all of what is now Michigan. In 1833, the General Assembly voted to annex part of Wisconsin to form a new state called Minnesota. This action prompted an angry reaction from Illinois lawmakers who argued that their land was rightfully theirs and not something taken away without a fair process. The following year, the General Assembly passed a resolution denouncing Minnesota's actions and demanding that their state be added to the list of states represented in Congress by Representatives from Illinois. This event led to some tense talks between Illinois leaders and Minnesota legislators over which state should have representation in Congress while also being allocated land for future agricultural production. Ultimately, though, Minnesota agreed to give up its congressional seat in return for being given more acreage in Illinois. It wasn't until 1855 that Illinois finally obtained its own Representative in Congress when John Pappas was elected to represent the state at large after winning an election against incumbent Aaron Burr. Prior to this point, Illinois had always been one of the few states without any representation in Congress due to its lack of population or economic strength. In 1860, however, this changed when Abraham Lincoln became President and ordered his cabinet to submit plans for how best to improveupon Union army forces stationed in Missouri so that they could be used against slavery-supporting southern governments across the nation. These plans eventually led toIllinois becoming one of six slaveholding states (along with Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware County Ohio (formerly West Virginia), New Jersey and Rhode Island) when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on March 6th 1863 - making it effectively free from slavery within two years!
