The Niles, Illinois National Guard was a volunteer military force that was established on October 25, 1855. The regiment disbanded in 1916. On January 1, 1916, the Niles National Guard was reactivated and organized into the 101st Division of the United States Army. The division was designated as an Infantry Division and activated at Camp Gibson in Niles on February 12th. The divisional organization followed World War I army regulations which called for a single infantry brigade each composed of three battalions totaling 100 officers and men. On April 26th, 1916 the Divisional Headquarters moved to Camp Logan in Champaign County and became responsible for all field operations within the Brigade area including artillery support; supply depots; transportation facilities; and communications center. In 1917-1918 there were two main campaigns fought by the Division during World War I: The Battle of Belleau Wood (July 17-20) and The Battle of Arras (May 6-8). These engagements resulted in more than 60% casualties for both sides with over 1,000 killed or wounded on both sides alone. With its reactivation in 1916, the 101st Infantry Division operated from Camp Logan until May 1918 when it relieved XXVII Corps at Sedan France following their successful offensive against German forces near Arras . For many years after World War I ended, 204th Brigade Combat Team served as Headquarters Company for 102d Infantry Regiment then activated on October 15th 1961 as part of activation order 9055 which changed command structure for units within cavalry commands back to general headquarters level on November 5th 1961 effective with unit 10234 becoming commander per unit activation order No 9055 which also redesignated 104th Cavalry Squadron Commandereffective with this change 104TH CTS became squadron commanding officer effective December 15 th 1960 For many years after World War II ended elements of 204 th Brigade Combat Team remained active serving under different staffs such as Information Intelligence Group (IIG), Chemical Warfare Service Detachment A (CWSA), Air Defense Command detachment 3rd Battalion 232nd ADA(A), 3 rd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion 331st RR(A)and finally Special Forces group 'Delta Force' upon its activation effective february 14 th 1966

Niles, Illinois is a small town in the northern part of the United States. The population was 9,726 at the 2010 census. It is located in Kane County. The town was founded in 1836 and named for General Niles Welles who fought in the Mexican-American War. Niles was originally a farming community with five churches and 100 homes. In 1905, Niles became an incorporated municipality with a population of 5,000. A new library and fire station were built in 1966 and 1970 respectively. The current mayor is Timothy Peevey and the City Council consists of six members elected at-large from among its residents. Niles has two high schools: John Marshall High School which serves students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, and North Central High School which serves students from 13th through 16th grades. There are also four elementary schools: Clarkson Elementary (grades kindergarten through 6), Jameson Elementary (grades 7-12), Noble Middle Schools (grades 7-8), and Greenlawn Intermediate Schools (grades 9-12). The only public transportation available within Niles is courtesy bus service that runs between school campuses daily during morning/afternoon hours; however, there are plans to build a local bike path that would provide more transportation options for residents.
