Small batch coffee has been a popular beverage in New Lenox, Illinois for over eighty years. The first coffee shop in the town was founded in 1916 by three men who had retired from their jobs as clerks at Northwestern National Bank. They named their business "The Coffee House". The first small batch coffee was made with beans from a local farm. In the early 1920s, the town's only grocery store, which served primarily groceries and food items for its customers, closed down. In its place came the first Dunkin' Donuts in New Lenox. Over time, other small businesses opened up and contributed to the growth of small batch coffee in New Lenox. Some of these businesses include: The Coffee House (now defunct), Mrs.Baker's Bakery (later bought out by Dunkin' Donuts), Mr. Kipper's Grocery (later bought out by Kroger), Andria Italian Restaurant (now known as Pizzeria Andria), Café San Giovanni (now known as Joe's Pizza Place), and Joe's Liquor Store (now known as Gambero Bros.). The popularity of small batch coffee continued to grow throughout the 1990s and 2000s; however, due to factors such as increased competition from larger chains and rising costs associated with production processes, many small-batch coffee shops have disappeared or were converted into lower-quality restaurants or bars over the last few decades. However, there are still many original small-batch coffee shops scattered throughout Illinois that continue to serve delicious cups of espresso every morning!

It was during this time that various grocery stores started carrying small batches of espresso beans from local roasters. Because espresso had not yet reached its high-water mark as a beverage, grocery store owners were able to find creative ways to use these beans – such as adding milk or cream into the liquid form which gave birth to what we now know as latte art (the art form associated with making lattes). Additionally, due to its rarity, some grocery stores would also sell pre-packaged cups of espresso which made it easy for customers not only purchase one cup but also try several different types before settling on one choice. Following World War II, things changed completely when commercial production resumed following the war effort. Prioritizing quality over quantity allowed large company roasters like Koffee Klatch and Peet’s Coffee & Tea Companyto increase their output significantly while maintaining product consistency across different geographical markets (i.e., North America vs Europe). Consequently,,smallbatching became more prevalent within North America than ever before due in part to Koffee Klatch’s success story: They grew rapidly from five cafes serving six hundred ounces per day in 1988 service size!/800 oz./2009 retail price point up through 2007 (+240%!), then increased output by 550% (+1100 oz/day), all while remaining low cost (<$2/cup) without sacrificing quality / character [-Klatch averaged $0-$5/oz at 2009/$8 retail prices]. Thus began an era where "quality" became increasingly important within both industry participants (& consumers) while "quantity" diminished (-buyers sought greater variety & reduced costs rather than UniformityTokenism!). However recent trends could suggest another future scenario: In light OF current trends [+ growth potential + expanding reach], "quality" could become more important (~$10/cup instead of less than $4 at ~$6 per ounce]), whereas "quantity" might actually decrease (~fewer cups = lower quality tea)). Needless To say...weathering these stormy times will be interesting!
