In 1915, American inventor Cornelius Vanderbilt Holland developed a gasoline-powered ship capable of sailing through water at up to 30 knots (50 km/h). He named his ship USS Whitehall after one of England’s most famous medieval castles. This new type of ship was not only faster than any existing warships but also more maneuverable, allowing it to navigate through tight waterways or operate in support of military campaigns. By 1935, many countries had built submarines, and during World War II the United States submarine fleet averaged over 100 boats per year. America’s submarines played an important role in victory against Nazi Germany as well as in providing security around our coastslines. Many technological advances were made during World War II such as radar technology and jet aircraft; however, submariners continue to play an important role today by monitoring global oceans and conducting search operations when needed

Before Naperville became an incorporated town on November 3, 1871, it was a village. Naperville is located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, about north of Chicago's downtown area and east of its southern suburbs. According to the 2010 census, Naperville has a total area of , all of it land. As of 2000, there were only a few buildings remaining from years ago when Naperville consisted mostly of houses scattered throughout rural areas around the lakefront. The first settler in what would become Naperville was George Hennepin who built his home on present day Oak Street in 1839. He named his property after General Henry Dearborn whose army had fought at Battle of Ft Wayne in 1812 and he also named one street for Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (1813-1865). Pecatonica Township was organized as part of DuPage County on January 1, 1847 and then Rockford Township on February 14th that year; both townships contained portions now within Naperville proper as well as parts extending into unincorporated areas such as McHenry County to the south and west while still including most or all Of PINPERVILLE residents within their boundaries until incorporation onto village status on November 3rd 1871 under then Village President Amos Silliman with just over 400 residents living within what would be known today as "Old Town." In 1865 Union general Ulysses S Grant became Commander-in-Chiefof American forces In Europe which led to increased military activity along DuPage County's shores which included 2 Naval shipyards being established at Decatur Point Naval Shipyard near Southport docks area becoming one large naval installation employing 6500 men by 1870 Navy Yard Station renamed Mare Island Navy Yard soon after completed primarily for Army use with Marines deploying there during World War I eventually closing following conflict There are several smaller Naval yards/shipyards still active today elsewhere within DuPage County several miles offshore including Moline Naval Air Station operated by BAE Systems Land Systems UK - formerly ADM Marine Systems & Services Inc.) various other minor naval installations also situated inland including Midway Airport approximately 8 miles northcentralNaperville lies across State line from Wisconsin providing access via State Routes 9 south central to Chicago IL making it easy to get around especially if driving past any major cities or metropolitan areas such as Milwaukee or Detroit MI originally these routes served primarily agricultural communities surrounding important waterways such as White River flowing throughChicago leading directly into Lake Michigan prior this region being heavily populated with numerous villages having their own water systems these days nearly all sizable cities have public water systems however back when Route 9 served chiefly agricultural communities this route did not serve any larger urban areas
Naperville is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the south shore of the Chicago River. The population was 57,693 at the 2010 census. Naperville was founded in 1855 by Hardin Clay and other members of the Clay family as a small farming community on the site now occupied by McCormick Place. In 1857, Naperville became one of fifteen townships in Cook County and was incorporated as a city on December 3, 1881. The original white settlers were Methodists from North Carolina who started to arrive in droves after Illinois became a state in 1818. The first building in Naperville was a log cabin built by Methodist minister John Marshall on what is now Lake Street. By 1870, there were twenty-one churches and school buildings within Naperville limits. In 1886, Chicago's Wabash Railroad laid tracks through Naperville and began to transport passengers and goods between Chicago and nearby Dearborn Junction; this opened up new economic opportunities for Naperville residents. After World War I, businesses grew rapidly due to military contracts that were awarded throughout southern Illinois; during this time, napervilles growth continued unabated with new construction such as an ice cream parlor and movie theater situated along State Streets (now Neary Avenue). One result of this boom was that many homes had to be replaced due to neglect or damage caused by development activities; these replacement projects often involved demolishing older homes while constructing newer ones near Highway 10/State Streets; today this architectural style is known as "Norman Rockwellesque".
